Rick called....a water main broke at work, so they sent everybody home (no bathrooms, no fire protection, etc). I told him he could come in and walk with me over lunch. If you left out all the swearing he did, he didn't make much of a response.
And then he said that it was pretty bad that he had to offer me lunch to keep me from walking. And then he came in and took me out to lunch today!

The creek is frozen and it was flowing yet yesterday when I walked. I don't know where the poor ducks are going to go or how they're going to deal with this cold. When we drove by, they were all huddled together on the grass.

It's just nasty outside. It is sunny, but honestly, it even looks like a popsicle.

There are probably going to be lots and lots of broken water mains, power outages, etc., with the bitter cold you're getting. :(

There are two broken water mains in downtown Columbus OH.  I am still waiting on AAA for my car that wouldn't start this morning.  It's been almost 4 hours now.

I am terrified our house will freeze as we have in floor heating but it has been broken for few years.  We keep it warm enough with room heaters but scary what damage can happen.

I went out to grab few items and sun is shinning but so creepy out as no animals or people walking.  My one dog darts out goes to the bathroom and RUNS to the door barking until I let her in.  She is usually the one who would sit in rain if given chance.

I would enjoy this a lot more if I did not have dogs lol.  Been feeding them around 2 so that I can walk in sun vs cold and dark.

The cold there is really insane. I know what you mean about the dogs. My sister now has three, all shorthaired, and I can't imagine them doing more than run out and right back in again.

About 18 years ago, right after we brought Whisper into the house, she still wanted to go outside for bathroom breaks. Well, we had had a ton of snow and it kept building up on the concrete deck around the pool....there was probably a good 1-1/2 feet of snow out there. She wouldn't have any rest until I opened the door for her. She went out onto the wooden back deck and hopped off. Into all that snow. She scurried around a bit, did a quick poop, jumped back up onto the deck and started yelling to come back in the house.

And that was the last time that girl ever ventured outside. You could open the door right in front of her and she'd meow, "Are you insane? You think I'm going out there? Uh-uh, so NOT gonna happen!" And she'd turn around and walk away. She never even wanted to go outside after that time.

(The poop on the concrete deck around the pool was still there when spring came. I cleaned it off when I scrubbed down the deck after we opened the pool.

Haha.  I wish Misty would stay in.  When snow came down few days ago she went out and you could not see her belly or legs at all.  Was like a ghost cat.

That must have been something else to see.

Both my dogs are short hair and princesses about snow, rain, wind and cold;P

Ooh that stinks.  I've seen people from all over posting things like that.  And lots and lots of pipes freezing and some bursting.  Even one woman who lives in an apartment!

We sealed up our crawl space after we bought our house and installed a good dehumidifer.  DH put a basic remote weather station sensor under there to monitor the temperature and humidity.  So far it's not gotten cooler than 54 under the house.  Even still: I opened the cabinet doors to the kitchen sink and let that one trickle last night.  I use it a lot during the day.  Now I have my bathroom sing dripping and those doors open.  Noodles was in there drinking the last time I went back there.

I'm honestly not sure I'm doing everything right; DH wasn't worried about the pipes at all.  We had the water freeze a few times when we had a trailer.  That was a big enough pain.  I dont want to deal with it here at the house!  At least there I knew how to defrost it myself!  I was wondering if the fact that one of the heat ducts for the kitchen comes up under the sink will help those pipes stay warm.  I know they are all insulated under the house.  My other sink that is on an outside wall is in a room that is always chilly.
