Hi. I'm Cocheezie, the owner and personal servant to a small 16-year-old long-haired black cat (currently with constipation issues), and a 13-year-old diabetic long haired, long whiskered, hairy feet, tabby cat who has some Maine Coon in him. Has many of the features, and the doggie nature, but is just a little smaller (13 pounds). He was born in a dumpster. HIs mum and brothers were rescued by a local no-kill organization and put up for adoption. Both these cats are inherited cats and came as indoor cats with no street smarts. We have leashed trained so at least they can go outside part of the time in good weather. Right now, it's bloody freezing! One came when my mother-in-law passed away. I promised her that we would take her cat and look after it. We've had her for 4 years now. The 13-year-old came 3 years ago when my one of my neighbours up the street had two falls in a short period of time (broken hip and broken pelvis) and was fretting about the cat being underfoot. This cat goes up daily to have a little visit. While we've always had cats (the previous two lived to be 18 and 16), these are are first two indoor ones. A different lifestyle altogether.

Also have a very apprehensive feral cat that has been coming to our front door as part of his route for the last 4 years. If I could get him in the house, I would, but no one can get close and we have too many skunks and raccoons around to try live trapping.

Am also the cat carer for anyone on the block that is going away. So some days, it feels like I do nothing but pet cats.

Thanks for all the great advice so far.

Lucky kitties, to have been taken in by someone so caring.  I know the feeling about petting cats all day (and feeding, cleaning up, giving meds....)  LOL  We have seven cats, four of them "inherited".

Welcome to TCS!

Hi and welcome to the site.
It's nice to have a couple of new 'pensioner' cats joining us, though sorry to hear they are not keeping so well at the moment. I hope you find the support and advice you are looking for while you are here.

It sounds like all the cats living near you are very lucky, and you are amazing for devoting so much time to them.  Your neighbours are also very lucky - I don't have anyone around who could / would look after Mouse so I end up staying home.  I like to think that one day that feral who likes to call by regularly will decide it's safe to set paw in to your home and take to a safer life. Good luck with that project.

I look forward to reading your posts around the site.  Enjoy.
