I found a small scraggly stray rooting around the bins outside my house i finally coaxed her inside with lots of tasty treats. She settled in very well and was very sweet. I put up posters and asked everyone in the area but no one owned her so I decided since she was very sweet she could stay. Yesterday I noticed that her abdomen look very swollen and then afyer a further gentle inspection I felt small hard lumps in her belly. I'll try to get a few good pics of her. Also would you be able to determine her age?
Thanks a million!

If unspayed and outside, count on she is pregnant.  Especielly as she also looks suspicious.

Best if you take her to a vet, for a check up, deworming.

Decide if you wish to go on, or take a spaying NOW.    Medically it is fully possible and not difficult as yet.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

I fully agree and don't have much to add.  It is hard to tell 100% from the pictures but she definitely looks like she might be pregnant and the odds are that she is- there are a lot of pregnancies starting around now to kick off kitten season later this year.

I also think a spaying is advisable and a good idea as soon as possible, whether or not she is pregnant.

Good luck and welcome!

I haven't been able tooo bring her to a vet yet but sent her a text message and she said that bramble is (from the photos i sent) almost certainly pregnant :-D!! but i plan to bring her to the vet this weekend. I think I'll let her have the kittensB-)

I really hope you will seriously think about whether or not to let her have the kittens, and that if you do let the pregnancy go forward, that you will spay her just as soon as you can afterwards.

There are many medical risks to allowing a cat to be pregnant , and it can be very difficult to care for the kittens and to find them homes- far more difficult than most people anticipate or could even imagine.

If you do allow the pregnancy to continue, you have to be prepared to take her to the vet for a c-section in the event that she experiences complications during the birth.  Since this may be her first litter, she may also be an inexperienced mother and you may have to help greatly with the birth and with the first few days of kitten care.  If heaven forbid something happens to her  or she refuses to or is unable to feed the kittens, you have to be prepared to feed them formula yourself every two hours, 24-hours per day. You have to be prepared for the considerable costs (and even more considerable potential costs if they need formula) of raising the kittens to 12 weeks when they can be adopted.  You have to be prepared for the possibility that some or all of the kittens may not make it.

The adoption process is another ordeal altogether.  It is amazingly hard to find homes for cats, even very young cats.  Are you prepared to keep the kittens if no one wants them? The cats have what is really an overpopulation crisis. There are so, SO many cats and not nearly enough people who want them.

Whatever you decide please do keep us updated and good luck with your kitty.

yes I have considered all the risks involved in a pregnancy. but I feel that termination is cruel to the unborn kitten(s). Im going to get her wormed at the vets this. weekend. Im definitely going to get her spayed as soon as possible after the birth. I don't think that there'll be much trouble finding homes for her babies here in Scotland the cat population isn't as high as in America or Canada and. were I live there are plenty of cat mad friends of mine who would simply loove a kitten as many of them have older cats and some have passed on:'(
ill keep you updated on her. Thanks a million for your advice its been very helpful! :-)

I took in a stray cat last Sunday. shes very friendly so i think she must have had contact with friendly people but no ones claimed her. i think she's pregnant and vet says its very likely but I only sent him a text but am bringing her on Saturday hopefully.
I'll make a list of her (for want of a better word) symptoms :

Physical:
her belly seems swollen and feels hard not like fat or like a potbelly caused by worms. when i gently rub a hand over her belly i can sometimes feel. hard bumps . I can feel then near her ribs
but im not sure if what Im feeling id just her guts when she need to go to the litter box or the fetusces(probably didn't spell it right but oh well :-)) her nipples are large and a sort of lipstick pinky colour and easy to find compared to my moms cat (when i compared the two) whis are small little white things and dreadfully hard to find.

Behavior:

shes really calm but sometimes gets into a really hyper playful mood then geos back ack to calm again. recently shes taken to lying on my couch all day only getting up for litter box and(what is right now her life) FOOD!
she's eating a lot but since she was a stray she might have been malnourished or she sits in front of her food dish and meows repeatedly for ages till when we don't give her anything because she was just fed two seconds ago geos back to lying on the couch.

Do you think im under feeding her as she never seems fully satisfied after a meal?

Do you think shes pregnant? Please help ive very little experience with pregnant cats!!!!

thanks:-) :wavey::cat:

It does sound like she's pregnant. How big is her belly ? could you post a photo of her ? so we can see exactly what you mean. Your vet will be able to confirm it if you take her on Saturday. PLEASE do get her checked by a vet as soon as can.
How much (amount) are you feeding her a day ? In how many meals ?

The best advice in my view is to take her to the vets, and get her spayed ASAP if he doesn't think she's pregnant, or if she's early in her pregnancy.

Regardless of if she is pregnant or not she should be wormed and checked for fleas.  She is probably not vaccinated either, but I'd hang fire on that until her pregnancy / spay status is confirmed.  It's also best in my view to get her FeLV / FIV tested.

yes thank you. I'm hoping to bring her to the vet this weekend and haver the vet have a look at her and get her wormed and flead.
she seems to be getting bigger and bigger with each passing day. But I might be making a srorm in a teacup out of it but im quite worried (actually im panicking lol) cus she looks as if she's still a kitten herself. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Taking her to the vets PDQ is the very best thing.  You have to assume that all female strays are pregnant.  :(

yes I was unable to bring her to the vet because of an unexpected meeting. Im definitely going to take her on Sunday.

I think she's quite young, no more than a year old.

What are the risks accociated with early pregnancies in cats? Please help :O

I started two threads but people were very vague and the replies not very helpful!!
please i need lots of advice.

Brambles tummy looks kind of swollen near her ribs but I can feel her ribs really easily. her tummy is hard and i THINK I can feel small lumps in her tummy. lately she just lays on my couch all day long and only gets up to eat and go to her litter box. She doesn't like to have her tummy felt and if we do she'll jump off my lap and sit down somewhere else but she loooooves being petted and always cuddles up to me looking for attention. she licks herself all the time but in the past few days she has been licking her tummy more often than usual. when she lays down she always lies on her side. shes been eating much more than usual and never seems full after a meal and always begs for more food but I usually ignore her cos she would have just eaten a full meal two seconds previous.
Please is she pregnant? I need all the advice possible cos Ive no experience with pregnant cats or pregnant animals in general!
HELP!! I'm going to try to bring her to the vet today but I'd like to have other people's ( people more experienced than I) opinions. HELP.any advice would be hugely appreciated :O

Ok so we can not confirm if your cat is pregnant or not just from what you describe. Neither can your vet from text messages or photos, without actually seeing your cat and examining her. This NEEDS to be done before we can help you with the pregnancy.

The vet will be able to confirm pregnancy and give you a rough idea to how far along she is. But you need to actually take her to see a vet.

We only want to help you but we cannot confirm pregnancy for definite, without examining her and as we cannot do this, it needs to be done by a vet.

I'm really sorry if I am preaching on about a seeing a vet but I am honestly only trying to help you.

Its no problem we all know what it's like when you get stressed and cannot think straight. I probably came across a bit harsh in my last post. But I was just trying to make you understand :D

Now you know she is definitely pregnant we can help more. Cats are pregnant for 9 weeks, so you have 6 weeks left to get everything ready.
Read up as much as can about cats giving birth.
You will need to make her couple of nesting boxes. These need to be in a quiet place like a bedroom.
Feel free to ask any questions. We are here to help :D
