My cat Smokey is a 9 year old Persian cat. She is strictly an indoor animal and has had no contact with other animals. Yesterday she was fine. Last night I noticed she was laying on the floor which is very odd for her. I didn't think much of it though. She has stayed in the same spot since last night. When I tried to get her up she just walked back to the same corner. She was walking kind of crouched to the floor. She hasn't had any food or water since this began. I have offered her wet and dry food. She refuses anything I offer her. I tried to get her to drink water and she refused. i tried giving her a few cc of water at a time in a medicine dropper. It stayed down fine. She has not had ANY other symptoms. I don't know what I should do.  This happened to her about 5 months ago. It was exactly the same and she was like that for 48 hours and then WHAM she was fine again. I really can't afford to take her to the vet right now. I would have to borrow the money. Don't get me wrong I WILL go into debt if it will make her better!!! There is nothing I wouldn't do for her. Has anyone had anything similar happen to their pet??? If so what was the outcome??

I agree, the vet is the only one who can help with figuring out this sort of thing. I have had to borrow money too for pet issues; it's never easy or ideal, but it's always worth it in the end. Whatever it may be, it sounds like she's in a lot of pain, so she probably doesn't want to eat/drink. When my best friend's cat was recovering from an infected foot, he wouldn't eat anything because of the pain, so the vet told her to offer him baby food. He ate it up! I would give that a try; and I believe you want to get something like a plain chicken baby food.

I hope your kitty gets better soon!!

My sister's new cat just recently had the same symptoms. It can be so many things. Her cat has fatty liver disease. It started very suddenly but since she took her in and caught it early they expect her to recover. She's been force fed for a few weeks already and has just started pooping again.

It's so hard to guess why a cat stops eating. She can't go too long without eating/drinking. I agree that you need to call the vet. There are just too many things it could be. I hope she's better soon.

My two cents, if you do not get her to a vet asap, you could lose her.

My first guess is a urinary tract infection, which can and will kill a cat if it goes untreated.

I am not one to rush a cat to the vet unless I feel it's needed or I can't fix it (Often times I am able because I have a cat rescue and lots of meds) but your kitty really needs to go.

Please, if you love her, and surely you do, get her in like yesterday! She needs and is counting on you now.
