My mom's cat Mandi's stomach is bloated and obviously painful when touched on the bottom. It feels firm, but still gives a little if you press gently on it, yet she displays no other symptoms.
She seems quite happy and has normal bowel movements, eats and drinks normally, plays with our other cat, Chico (who has been neutered and given all his shots as well), and seems normal, until you touch the bottom of her stomach, and she twitches violently and lets out a distressed meow. Touching the sides doesn't seem to bother her much. She loves being held and pet, but we have to be careful when picking her up, as it's very painful for her. She also has trouble grooming her lower half, because her stomach is so big it keeps her from reaching, so we give her baths once a week.
She was a stray we adopted, and her stomach was already like this. The vet assumed she's already been given all the shots she needs and that she's likely been spayed, since she's also been declawed. She was obviously someone's pet. The vet dewormed her, with no obvious effects. Mandi also had gingivitis really bad when we first adopted her. She seems better now, however.
She's also a gulper, and tends to swallow her kibble whole and eats really fast. I'm guessing this was a habit developed from being a stray and needing to eat quickly. She has been eating slower lately, however.
She has been like this for about seven months, so she's obviously not pregnant. We can't afford more in-depth vet care right now. What could be causing this?
