I found a small cat wandering outside my house. she was skinny but very affectionate and playful although she was a bit frightened at first she soon settled in beautifully. I was going to get her neutered very soon but i noticed her belly looked very full and she was eating like a pig. I checked her nipples to see if there pinking up. I'll try to enclose a picture of them as i don't have the skills to tell. do you think she is pregnant and if so how long till she has her kittens? many thanks ;-)

I cannot really say without seeing any pictures. But even then it would be hard to say it's possible she might have worms. Worms would make her look pot bellied and make her eat like a pig.
The best thing you can do is take her to see a vet for a full health check if you have not done so already and the vet will be able to confirm exactly what is going on.
It's great that you rescued her. Have you tried to find out if anybody owns her ? :wavey:

Pics will help but highly likely she is infact pregnant.

LOTS of kitties are right now, earlier pregnancies for the most part, so that the births hit in late February to start off kitten season with a bang.

Each year I get called constantly from the local Humane Society, with newborn kittens from ingnorant people thinking they are doing a good thing when they find babies with no momma around.

I sure wish they could understand, they're not abandoned, momma is feral and hides when you get near........leave 'em alone and bring them back in 4 weeks so they can survive and before they are feral, rather than pulling them now and bottle feeding, risking chances of surviving.

Anyway, pics will help us tell you, several angles.

I agree with what has already been posted.  Please post pics, but it is very likely she is indeed pregnant.

If you intend to keep her, I also agree that a vet visit is in order.  It is possible that if she is early enough in the pregnancy, it can still be terminated, but you will also want her to be checked out for worms etc whether or not it turns out she is pregnant.

Good luck and thank you so much for helping this cat.

If she isnt spayed, she is almost surely pregnant.  And either got dumped because of it, or got astray when she "sought after love", or IS homeless, but now when her time is nearing, she is seeking a safe haven for her and her children.   And thus, eager to please herself in, even if its scary.

If you feel the kittens move, it is about 2 weeks left, or less.

If you dont feel any kittens move, the question is open.

Although you can probably feel the fetuses as harder clumps.  If you dont feel them, its prob worms in her belly.

I agree with GemsGem.

Seek after old owners, IF she got astray.  Dont write everthing about her, let the owners identfy themselves by describing the bits you didnt mentioned.   You dont want villains get her for free.

Also this check up with vet is useful in many ways.    Including deworming and having a contact for future. Being his paying patient, it will be easier for you to just phone and ask advices, be it in the middle of the night! (some vets allow this)

IS a late spaying possible for you?   Its not pleasant and most refuse, we dont insist either, but for a skilled surgeon its not very difficult, so some rrescuers do so, and quite a few shelters.

It is not so terrible as it sounds - kittens cant survive if born more than a few days too early. Unlike human babies who survive born even several months too early, just with some help..

Good luck!

i had her wormed and vaccinated when nobody claimed her. i brought her to the vet and they checked if she was microchipped and she wasnt so i decided she could stay. i didnt want to spay her for some time as the vet said to wait till she was at least 6 months old. But that was a good while ago and he guesstimated she was around 4 months at the time. so i don't think its worms. :-)

She does not look like she has pinked up yet from the photo. But she could still be pregnant. They don't normally pink up until they are about 3-4 weeks pregnant :D

Yeah photos would help. I can't think of any other way of telling in early pregnancy only having a vet look at her. Lets hope she not because If she is only 8/9 months old , she is way too young to be having kittens. She needs to be over 1 year at least really. She's not even fully grown herself yet. It's like the equivalent of 11/12 year old girl having a baby. Not good really

What awful, awful advice from the vet.  As Stefanz says, one has to assume that all stray female cats are pregnant and therefore they should be spayed ASAP unless they are unwell.  You don't say what country you are in, but in most western countries it is possible to find vets who do early neutering and don't force you to wait.

I really urge you to get her spayed as soon as possible, since you are allowing her out of doors (my advice would be the same even if you were not, but it is an urgent situation because you are).  Even with the vet telling you to wait till 6 months (some vets in the USA still believe this is best, though I don't agree) you say she is over 9 months now- please do not wait any longer.  Pregnancy exposes cats to so many health risks, from eventual cancer to the risk of dying from complications in childbirth.  Please get her spayed as soon as you can, otherwise whether ot not she is pregnant now she will be before you know it.
