Hi all -

I've just noticed a problem going thru my household.  I don't know about the feral kitties.  It's been so cold that they are off their food a bit as they don't want to come out of their warm places to eat so I've cut back on the cans I feed them.  But the inside cats are turning down the wet food and sulking.  No diarhea (sp?) and no vomiting.  Just off their feed.  I noticed it when Lionel, my always hungry one who eats everything, refused food.  Not at all normal.  Then I realized it was going thru the crowd.  I feed them Blue dry but set out the ferals' 9 Lives dry so they could eat "comfort food" when ready to eat.  They have both to choose from and that seems to be working.  This thing seems to last 24 hours and appears to go away.  It frightened me because the first thing I thought of was did I get a hold of bad food from China?  I go to the vet to get the A/D the some of them eat.  Could I have brought a virus home from there?  Where did this stuff find it's way to them?  I've had the kennel thing go thru them before when one or another has spent time at the vet clinic and come home with sneezing and such but this isn't that.  It's just run down draggy and fatigue.  Like us when we get the 24 hour flu.  If it doesn't clear up I will make a trip to vet.  But at the moment my vet is on vacation.  They are getting back to normal after a day of this, as long as it stays away.  It is just unnerving and frightening.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Karen

Sure, viruses are everywhere and can be brought into your home via the vets, your shoes, etc.

They should all be vaccinated and fixed anyway, but some viruses this will not stop and have to run their course.

Be glad it's just 1 day.....average is 3, unless of course it's virus-turn-bacterial and needing antibiotic treatment.

It could be a number of viruses, corona, and so on. As long as you see them all go through it and recover fine, it's okay. Not alot we can do to avoid this, except the big ones that can be avoided with vaccinating.

Yes, they have major vaccinations.  This is something I don't think there is a vaccination for.  It's like you or me getting the flu.  They are just punky like I said for about 24 hours.  Then seem to recover.  I pour the broth off the wet food and give it to the recovering ones until they can handle their full dish of food again.  Just never had it happen that I remember.  Thanks for answering.
