Hello

I am looking for some health advice regarding my adopted cat Molly.
We collected her last week from a friend, who was looking to give Molly to a good home. She took her in at the beginning of the year as a stray kitten. Molly is now approx 12 months old, and around 2 and a half months ago she gave birth to 4 kittens. Sadly only 2 survived, but Molly was an excellent first time young mum and brought them up well. Both the kittens were weaned and onto solid food, but occasionally pestered Molly to feed, she was still producing milk for them. About 2 days after we brought her home with us, we noticed that around 2 of her nipples there was a swelling and those nipples appeared larger than the others. The swelling doesnt seem to be bothering Molly. My concern is, I'm not sure what has caused this, I can only guess that is has something to do with her still producing milk even though the kittens are no longer with her. Is there a risk of infection? Can anyone out there offer me some advice to put my mind at ease??

regards Kath

I think a quick trip to the vet would be the best thing. Also now that she is done nursing she should be spayed
Good luck with the kitty.

my concern would be that this might could or might be the beginning of mastitis. If there is swelling, redness and hotness, then it is entirely possible that this is what is going on. To be safe, I would take her in, get her checked and if her kittens are eating independently then I would get her spayed. That would be the safest course of action.
