Hi there!

I wanted to introduce to you: Jackie! My husband and I decided after quite a lot of discussion to adopt a furbaby this week. I have not had a furbaby for a long time. My last lovely feline, a gorgeous blue classic tabby, Shelby, crossed the Rainbow Bridge a couple years ago, but she has been living back home with my parents for many years before that.

I knew I did not want a kitten, but a young adult. Funny, when I was younger I wanted kittens but now that I am in my mid 30's perhaps I think "hey, give us older ones a chance!". After all my husband and I met when and married in our 30s so we know the older ones have got something special. We looked at a few shelter and rescue cats and while I would have loved to take them all, my heart was captured by this little darling when I saw her listing on kijij (this is her actual kijiji picture, I have not managed to get any other pictures of her yet!):

It clearly came through that her owner was rather heart broken to be giving her up and was worried she would end up in a shelter. When I contacted her owner, she told me there had been a couple inquiries on Jackie (she came with that name :)) but everyone wanted kittens or wanted her to pay to get her spayed. She is also more of a people cat, definitely not into dogs and only tolerant of other cats. So, her options were getting more limited. Her owner had already had to move with her sons into a new apartment and was not allowed to keep her, nor do I get the impression she had the money to spay her for someone else to take her. She has had her since birth, when she was born to a kitty she was fostering. So, it was definitely not an easy thing for her. Well, we went to meet her and fell for her immediately.

Jackie is almost 3 (her birthday is January 25), a beautiful torbie (mackerel markings). She is super soft...not quite short hair and not quite long hair with a gorgeous soft mini orange-tinged ruff around her neck. All her paws are dark except one white/creamy red rear one. It looks like a zombie paw! And a fluffly black (with gray) tail that looks like it came from a different cat. She is also small, between 5-6 lbs. Funny as I never quite was taken with torties or torbies before but am now smitten! Her colour/patterning is just so interesting.

I will have to try and get some better pictures of her body later :)

We took her home this past Thursday just after meeting her....it was our wedding anniversary so what a great date! She is adjusting soooo well. She is very well behaved and easygoing, and adores being around her people. She follows me around the house (or leads!) chirping and chatting, and was content to lay in my lap for 2 hours last night getting head rubs, and then switching off with my husband for another 2! Unlike any other cat I have ever had, she does not really care where you touch her or what you do (clip claws, rub her belly, fluff her tail). She purrs for it all and comes back for more! She purrs quickly and is quite rumbly for her size, sounds like a little diesel engine.

She is not very fussy so is eating well and drinking, and while she let it be known she did not like her first litter by taking to our plant, she quickly started back in her box once we got her litter she liked. She is almost toilet trained too, but I need to learn about that.

Sorry this is so long, but she has wormed her way into our hearts already and I am so excited about her. My husband is spoiling her with fancy cat trees and such, and just wants to play with her, though he kept trying to claim I was the one who wanted her, ha.

I highly suspect she does have ear mites and I know she needs to get spayed asap before she goes into heat again (she has had mutliple litters already) so vet checkup on Thursday!

Oh, that's a great introduction.  I know the previous owner must have been relieved, too, to know this special kitty was going to such a great home.  I'm happy for all of you!

Welcome.

How lovely to hear of an adoption avoiding any need to go in to a shelter in between homes.  I am so happy for you bringing Jackie in to your home, and with such obvious love for her.
I am in love with her just from your description it is so cute!  It sounds like she is an expert at training her humans and you have been allowed to test out her trust to quite an exceptional level already (claw clipping, belly rubbing and tail fluffling are quite advanced
) so she must be just as in love with you as you are in her!

It sounds like she has had quite a tough time of it if she has already had a number of litters so I am pleased you plan to have her spayed as soon as you can.

I look forward to hearing lots more about Jackie and all of her activities around TCS, and of course - lots more photos.

Thanks for the warm welcomes (Jackie also says "meow").

We are doing very well already! I can't believe how fortunate I was to find her. She's absolutely darling! Super sweet and affectionate. Now walking around like she owns the place! I guess she kind of does!

She DID go into heat a couple days ago so that has been...interesting. I always had my pets fixed before they reached heat. However, as she has been through this a few times she is not TOO bad. She mostly likes to roll around on the kitchen mat a lot. She is getting lots of body rubs (and a few distractions with catnip toys) to ease her through it.  Now and then goes calling through the house for a tom, I guess! I mostly just feel bad for her and give her extra cuddles. It just does not seem like a whole lot of fun.  Vet tomorrow for her check up, so we should know soon when she can get spayed.
