Please take a look at my kitty's incision? Pictures inside: in case some are weak-stomached!]

Hello, I just signed up! I have three baby girls and i got all three spayed December 19th. Well, two of them healed perrrrfectly! However I ran into a bit of a problem with one of my kitties, Mia. Mia was moving around far too much despite my attempts to keep her less active.

I noticed her incision healed at the top but lowe down, it wasn't getting better. So I decided it was time for a vet visit. He gave me antibiotics but didn't really tell me she had an infection. He said he wasn't concerned about it, just didn't want it to get any worse. And told me to confine her. I came to my grandmothers for new years and we've been here for about 4 days where i've kept her calm and have been giving her the antibiotics. It looks MUUCH better, but it's been 4 days (5 days today but i havent given her the meds yet) since I've been giving her the antibiotics, and he told me to keep her on them for a week, see if she got better. She is getting better, but I'm concerned that maybe she's not as well as she should be at this stage.

before

and now (today)

so obviously it looks muuuuch better

also that's not a hole, it's dry blood, it seems. it's definitely not the size of the gap. I tried to take a good picture of it but a) she wouldnt stay still long enough and b) ive only got a camera phone to work with!

does it seem how it should be a this point?

of course if need be i will take her to a vet, but i would prefer not to take her to another vet that isn't hers, and my grandmother is 2 hours away from him :(

what do you guys think?

It looks better to me, but of course I'm going by a picture and not in the flesh. If it looks better to you, and the kitty is playing normally, I don't see the need for a vet visit at this time.

I just adopted a 4 month old who was fixed on Dec 27th by the shelter vet. My vet told me she only had one stitch in her so be careful. Be careful I had her locked in my bedroom for 4 days and she was jumping all over the place. I have no room small enough to hold a kitten, liter box, food and water. On day 5 we let her out. Her belly doesn't look anything like your pix. But now I have to take her back to the vet tomorrow because she has a big lump under her stitch. Probably from playing which in spite of the lump she is eating, running up and down steps, playing, climbing, doing her duty, so who knows. I am also the type that if they are on their feed, eating and drinking, using the box, all is well. I would also check her temperature as an elevated temp means infection.

Her two sisters' incisions healed up nicely, so i know Mia's ended up with an infection but I am giving her antibiotics :) The vet told me to give them to her for 7 days to see if she showed improvement, and that if she wasn't getting better with those antibiotics, to take her back.

I do see her getting better, I'm just concerned that maybe it's not as well as it should be. I'm worried that it hasn't closed enough. But looking at the photos I can tell it's closing up, perhaps I need to just give it time.

It never got to the point of a serious infection so thankfully she never stopped playing, eating, or drinking and she uses her litter just fine! No changes there :)

also no fever :)

Thank you so much you two!

Thank you so much! Looking at it better, I definitely think so too. I guess the only thing left to do is give it time and make sure it doesn't open up or anything doesn't go bad!

Looking at it today, I realized that was a scab, not dry blood like I originally thought. :)

Which makes more sense, since about 2 days ago, the skin looked pink and closed. I guess there's still that one layer of skin that needs to close up.

Thank you all!

I think the key thing to keep in mind is she's going to heal a lil slow since she had a infection her lil immune system is working double time. But it looks better most defiantly.
