I'm so excited! My cleaning girl is coming in the morning! I can't wait!

I've been trying to tidy up (not clean!),  I'm trying to put away the clutter and clean off surfaces so that she can do a good cleaning.

It will take a couple visits to get it to my standard of  "Better Homes and Garden"  picture ready!  I'm so looking forward to having both a clean, and uncluttered living space again! I can't stand clutter.  I'm actually going through my small appliances again and giving away some things: Bread maker, coffee maker, and maybe my waffle maker too. Not sure about the waffle maker though. I might keep it.

She's here!  And right on time too!

We had a major blizzard yesterday and overnight. I called her yesterday evening to ask if she wanted to reschedule. It was absolutely miserable out, and the roads are really bad.  She declined and said that she would be here, and she was.

Her husband brought her and came up to meet me. Smart!  He just wanted to make sure the job was on the up-and-up and that she wasn't walking into an unsafe situation.

She provided me with some fine references; one of which is a doctor at the hospital where I work. Plus she works for the owner of a small investment company in Winnipeg, in addition to having worked at a major cleaning company.

She has my sheets in the washer, and is currently working hard on the bathroom.

I managed to get some stuff tidied up so it isn't as cluttered. I'm so embarrassed by how messy and unclean my place is. Now don't start picturing "Hoarders" because it's not like that, but every flat surface had clutter on it, and the place is so dusty. You can see a layer of dust on everything in the sun. Plus the bathroom has only had one really good cleaning in the 2 years I've been in this apartment.  I clean the toilet monthly, at least the inside, and have cleaned the shower a few times, but never everything all together.

While she is here, I will concentrate on putting stuff away, especially in the spare/cats room. So I told her to not worry about that room today. Once I get it more tidy and there is actually room for her to do some cleaning, I'll have her tackle that for a good cleaning and dusting.

She seems like a hard worker, and very professional.

She has 3 kids aged 14 to 17, and works as a nanny looking after a 1 and 3 year old in the afternoons during the week.

I think she will work out very well.

She said that she is available to come on a Friday during the daytime when I'm not here, so that my place will be clean for the weekend.  So that is perfect!

I can give you the link of the site I place my ad.  You don't have to place an ad, you can answer some of the ones where people are looking for work. I wanted to hire someone with specific qualifications, so I posted asking for someone like that, instead of replying to ad after ad.

Hopefully she works out well.

I told her that she was the only one I called because she had given her first and last name, a company she worked for, and her phone number. I told her that it saved me having to send emails through the website, fishing for information.

She's been cleaning that bathroom for almost an hour!  I don't think there is a single germ left!  LOL

That is really cool! I'm so glad she seems like a good fit!

I'm just curious though - do you feel a little weird about someone else going through and washing your stuff, like sheets? I sort of think I would feel funny about it, even if there isn't any good reason..

Yes, it does feel a bit weird at first, but it's hard for me to do so I had to swallow my pride a bit and have someone do it for me.

I'm only having her do the sheets and towels.  I can do  my clothing in my small apartment washer/dryer.  But towels and sheets take too long to dry in my dryer (3 hours for the towels and about 2.5 hours for the sheets).  If I do all my laundry in my portable machines, it takes me all day.

She's still doing a bang up job!  But now she's trying to change the terms of our arrangement!

When I interviewed her I was specific in that for the first month she would be here on Saturdays and so would I.  After that she would come on Thursday or Friday (she could pick which day and let me know in advance so I could leave her money).  She said that Friday works best for her.

Today at work when I was on my break, I took my phone out of my purse and saw that it was flashing that I had a message.  I turn the volume/vibration off on my phone at work, and didn't turn it on last night, and left the volume off all night and all morning.  I saw that she had sent me a text message saying "I'll be there tomorrow at 9am, is that ok for you?"  I answered "Yes"  thinking that she had sent that message last night. She normally  comes at 7:15 am as I'm leaving for work, so I figured she just wanted a bit of a later start.

I got home tonight and noticed that she had actually sent it today at about noon.

I've had a hard week, and I'm exhausted. I want to sleep in tomorrow and the last thing I want to do is be around people this weekend  or get up at 7:30 am. . I just want a nice quiet weekend at home with complete peace and quiet to regroup and relax.

I left her a text message explaining that I thought she had sent the message last night, and told her that Saturday will not work for me. ( I mean it could if I wanted to get up at 7:30am, but I don't.). I told her that we'll skip this week and she can come next week on Friday January 31st.

She phoned me and asked if Sunday would be ok. I told her no, and that we had agreed from the beginning that she would come Friday (her preference). She told me that she isn't always available on Friday. I told her that isn't what she told me when we talked about her employment hours.  I suggested that we decrease her hours to twice a month if she can't come every week, or let me know in advance which week she can't come and we'll just pass on that week.

She said that she would work it out with "her employer".... I guess another client.

I feel a little bad because I know she needs the money, but I placed that ad with specific needs and  went into this with the attitude that I'm not looking for a friend; that this is an employer/employee relationship.

I hope that I don't have to look for someone else, because she is really good, but I'm not going to let her dictate my schedule.
