Naku is losing fur on his ears!

Since I got back home from my holiday trip home (both cats took the 8 hour ride with me), Naku has been a bit more itchy around his ears to the point he is losing fur now on his ear! Right now, he just has a little circle patch of hair loss on the right ear, which has grown a bit since he has been scratching today. I also noticed he is just itching more in general (well, more grooming). They are treated with Revolution, but I also ran through a flea comb to check for any flea dirt (none). They have had somewhat of a diet change, about a month ago -- I added in a dry food that Naku can actually keep down (just due to the fact I go away on weekends) and he seems to be doing well.

I don't really remember him grooming this much before we left on the trip -- but I do know he definitely had all his fur! I checked the left ear, and that one is just thinning. Nothing looks swollen and I cleaned his ears today to help get out any wax as well (and they smell fine -- and no coffee ground mite appearance).

So -- I am sort of wondering if this could be stress related, from the trip? Or, the dryness? Has anyone else experienced this?

Note: He does have permanent bald spots behind both ears, from when we adopted him. They noted in his chart that he had very bad ear mites and scratched himself bad when he was brought until the mites were treated. But, again, he doesn't have a mite looking appearance, nor does it look anything like ringworm. Also, when I went back home, they were the only pets in the household.

I won't be home this weekend, but when I get home Sunday, I am going to see how he is doing and determine if I will call Monday AM to make an appointment for him.

My kitty got a yeast infection in his ears that was the result of a food allergy.  He has developed an allergy to chicken.  Does his ears look like they have wax in them.  I know my kitties ears did.  When I took him in for his checkup the vet cleaned out his ears and looked at it under the microscope and it had yeast in it.

Thanks! Yeah, he does have some food allergies, which is why I feed him non-poultry foods. I'm hoping he'll be fine through the weekend. I am going to try and pop home for a few minutes tomorrow to see how he is doing. Thankfully, no vomiting and poops seem a-ok. I think they treated him for an ear infection before when we first adopted him from the shelter and they had us give in Animax for it. I still have it but it's probably two years old now - so probably no good.

Also - just to add - he's always been a waxy ear kitty. Lol ... no matter what diet he was on. I kind of slacked as of late on dropping some solution in to clean them out, but I dropped some ear cleaning solution in today to help. Otherwise, the insides of his ear look healthy.

my 14 year old boy lost a dime size bit of fur on each ear. He had previously lost fur around his neck. Vet said he had yeast. Sure hope ear drops help. Have you ever heard of yeast in cats ears...brought him to vet many times and no one ever said anything about it.
