So background story I never got around to introducing her  but I had adopted a 3rdd cat a little girl by the name of Chapin(Chaypin), boys loved her, everything was great until she got fixed, fast foreword to day after Christmas, she passed away at 2.5 months and 2 pounds(she was throwing up and not eating and drinking the day off). Now fast foreword to current, poor Bear has now become sick, the vet wasn't sure with what and gave us a de worming pill and an antibiotic. Now he has been throwing up, is refusing to eat and drink. The vet said Bear has bacteria in his stool that was able to be passed from human to cat. He has diarrhea, but only poops a little and now he has mucus coming out his rear. what I guess I am asking is for advice if anyone else has dealt with this.

If he isn't eating or drinking you will need to force feed him both water and food.  Ask your vet for some a/d or recovery it is easily syringe fed.  Cats can become dehdyrated really rapidly especially if they aren't eating.  Feed him frequently like 4-6 times a day, small amounts.

Hi

I'm so sorry, this is a heartbreaker.

-- How soon after Chapin got ill and died did Bear get sick?

-- How long was Chapin sick before he died?

-- Was Chapin's illness ever diagnosed either while alive or post mortem?

-- Did the Vet make any connection between Chapin's illness and Bear's?

We know of illness's that can go from cat to human but I've never heard of the reverse so you Vet's comment about a human bacteria making your cat sick seems a bit odd and non specific.

While it might be coincidental, the fact that your other cat died of something that are the exact same symptoms of your currently ill cat has me very worried.  And the combination of symptoms just on their own, not withstanding you other cat, vomiting and refusing to eat is a very worrisome combination.

We can't diagnose this from afar, not even a vet can diagnose online, but I can say that this is very worrisome, and I feel your cat needs a more aggressive intervention whether from your vet or another vet.   This would be a good time to get a second opinion - medicine is in fact not just science, its also part "art", and when you've been in rooms with 3 or 4 vets and listened to 3 or 4 different opinions routinely, you start to see the "art" of it.

Your cat is very sick.  Your previous cat died of similar symptoms.  If there is any connection to Chapin's death and Bear's illness then you have to assume that Bear's life is at great risk, and major veterinary intervention is called for.

Please keep us informed.

Stephen

5 days after chapin Bear got sick.

Chapin showed no signs of being sick till she died.

Never diagnosed, vet didn't make any connection really just thought what chapin had got passed along.

I'm on pretty limited funds and used what I had to go see the vet, they did a fecal float  and gave him some liquids under the skin.

I'm giving him water via syringe, he will not take any food but he does take his meds. The wanted to test for feline aids and pheloleukimia(SP?) but we could not afford the blood work and x rays.

Ok well then it seems even more likely that Chapin gave it to Bear.  I would call your vet and ask for a phone consult and help him understand the connection.

Cats generally, and actually almost never die of intestinal parasites and what your describing sounds much worse.

But what you describe sounds much worse then garden variety parasites.  There is a link at the top of the forum on getting vet care when you don't have a lot of funds, and maybe you can work something out with the vet.

The feline Leukemia test that you mentioned isn't or shouldn't be expensive, but if your other cat had feline Leuk then it wouldn't have made Bear so sick so quickly.

what we can guess is Chapin got sick when getting fixed.

my vet wanted to keep him over night + IV + antibiotics + xray to cheak for blockage in total we were looking at 700$ including the 80$ vet visit. With the things the vet did do came to 254$ which we had on hand. The meds seem to be helping, we phoned the vet and the mucus coming from his rear is a side effect of the meds. The medicine is called Novamoxin  he takes 0.5 2x a day.

Edit: he won't eat or drink on his own, he will let me give him water via syringe but not food.

Vet phoned, checking in and thinks we are on the right track. Vet said to give him tuna juice mixed in with his water so that Bear is getting some calories, we had to watch him up this morning since Bear is no longer grooming himself, he had nice pink medication on his mouth and paws.

If he isn't eating you need to feed him more than tuna juice.  Cats can get VERY sick VERY fast if they aren't eating all their calories.  I think you may need to syringe feed him.

Update:

Sadly Bear passed away. He had Feline Panleukopenia, lest that's what our vet thought he had.

Oh no!
I'm so sorry for your losses. How tragic to lose both Chapin and Bear so young and so quickly.  My thoughts are with you.
