My kitten really no longer resembles a kitten. He is going to be a huge boy. Tonight I noticed that he now has double upper canines on each side. How long until the baby canines fall out? I just researched this and it does sound like it is not unusual to have both canines until the baby ones fall out. But I just wanted to make sure that it was nothing to worry about.

One convenient thing is that he is being neutered on Monday, so if anything needs doing by the vet then that would be the time to do so. I assume that if they need to pull out the baby canines, that this is not a difficult thing to do?

I expect the vet will leave his teeth alone - that is if the doubles are still present.  My kitten had them on the 7th Dec - I noticed them when she was being vetted in at a cat show - at the next show (21st) they had gone.  Her mother had doubles as well.  So long as your kitten is eating & drinking normally they are nothing to worry about.  The kitten's mother had a lot of pain and became very miserable and needed pain relief.

BTW if you are wondering mother & daughter are pedigree cats, not an oops litter of any kind.

It varies so much so it's impossible to say how long it will take until the baby teeth will fall out. As long as there are no problems I'd just wait it out. It does happen that the baby teeth don't fall out on their own and have to be pulled but if he's still young there is no reason to pull them yet.

Hello! That is an interesting topic, I've always wondered about teeth. Emilio is 7 going on 8 months and I haven't seen any tooth changing or one fell out. Shall I be waiting to see a tooth on the floor one day? How does it happen? Thank you!

You mised it!  Their baby teeth are usually replaced with permanant one by about 6 months old.

I think you would be very lucky to find one. Very few people do, its the same with puppies. They tend to swallow them so I guess they poop them out. :lol3:

They usually fall out by about 5-6 months.  Glad to hear one has come out.  I have one kitty who never lost one of her baby fangs, she still has it, her permanent tooth never came in.  She is 7 years old.
