How are you all doing with your money challenge, whether it's doing the 52-week challenge or savings coins or what have you?

I've been doing the 52 week challenge and have managed to stay with it thus far.  I don't have to add anything until the first week of March, so hanging in there!

Oh I'm glad you posted.  I was going to look for this thread today, I need to print out the chart so I can check it off each time I put money in--I keep forgetting whether I've put in the money for the week or not!

Hubby decided to do it, too, so we've got two jars going!

Yey, I'm still going but sometimes changing the change for notes as not found a suitable jar or anything to put it in and using a little purse just now.  A fried game me a diary that has the week numbers on it which is great as I know how much money I need to put in each week!  Already see it building up which is nice and even if I can't make it to the end of the year there should be a decent amount to cover some of Mouse's vet care.

I usually put the whole month in at the beginning of the month. It's going to be a bit more difficult to do that, though, once we get into the later months where it's $30+ a week. (I'm trying to put in some extra to try to counter-balance those larger weeks.)

I gave up on it. I combined the money with my daughter's jar of money. I kept forgetting to put the money in. I don't think I'd have been able to manage giving up the bigger amounts per week closer to the end of the year, especially since I can't seem to find a job and we are going to be a family of 4 by October.

I'm figuring on keeping up with it as long as I can through the year, and if I get stuck in a few months I can keep adding what ever change I find in my purse as every little bit adds up to something.

I used to keep a bowl on a worktop and when I had small change (coppers here in UK) I'd put them in the bowl.  After a few months I had £5!   May not seem much but it's enough to go out for a coffee and buy one for a friend or my niece too, or a tube of Mouse's Thrive fish snacks.   One or two pennies or cents at a time builds up and then you can do something with them which feels nicer than them vanishing in to all the daily struggles to keep the house going.

I used to save my pennies, but we don't use pennies here anymore. Our coins are 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents, $1 and $2. I am trying to save all change that I get for my daughter.

Same kind of thing @catlover19, the little stuff builds up to nice amounts over time and you don't miss it too much so you save something even when you don't have enough to start with.  Lucky Aimee.

Even  if it takes like a year to save $10 it is $10 you wouldn't have had and it wasn't painful getting there.

I have a pottery pig that I used to put £2 coins in when I had more money and they can build up quite quickly. I used some of it at Christmas for presents for my nieces and nephews, and until it's all used up it's my vet fee money for Mouse now if I need it.

I like this idea.  I've just moved from a healthy pay cheque and easy saving to pay cheque that won't cover living expenses never mind anything else but anxious to have something put by for vet bills and the like for Mouse.  I doubt I'll be able to make the bigger amounts towards the end of the year but hey, if you're in the habit it has to be easier right? And something is better than nothing. :bigthumb:

I'll be on £1 rather than $ though.

Nice one Natalie_ca
I was going to say. 52 quid is a lot of money whereas 52 shekel is about £9 all told. Maybe I should put 5 shekels in each week?

The oroginal idea was to start with 1 on week one and build up by 1 more each week until the last week of the year it would be 52, which is quite good fun but is going to get hard by the end of the year.
I'm reckoning any saving affordable is better than none and if we keep checking in with each other too it helps someone like me to put something in.
According to my little Kitten diary we are now on week 8 so if my arithmetic is correct you could put in 36 shekel this week and you would have caught up with us.

I'm going to have problems keeping up when we get to those higher numbers, too. I get an allowance every other week, when we both get paid. And I have to make that last for gas, hair appts, etc. til the next allowance. It's not difficult for the most part, but doing this, in addition to other stuff, it will be hard. I'll see if I can keep it up. I hope I can. Rick said he'd help me, but I don't want help....I want to do this by myself.

Me and my boyfriend started this challege at the begining of the year and we're still doing it. However, we use our national currency, lei. At the end of the year we will have enough money for a great holiday.
