When you refrigerate your cats food and its meal time do you warm it up when you get it out? If so do you just add hot water or do you put it in the microwave? Or do you just feed it as is? Do you believe one is better then the other? Or is it just a preference that either you or your kitty have ?

I would love to read everyones responses and hear what you have to say, oh and don't forget to vote in the poll

l don't think l've ever microwaved it. Sometimes they get it straight out of the fridge cold. But usually l'll "thin" it with hot water. And for the morning meal, while l'm doing other things, l have their bowls sitting in a bake-tray filled with hot water so it gets slightly warmed from below as well. l would say it never gets to the point of being called warm, but the cold edge gets taken off.

If I have refrigerated their cat food, before I feed them, I nuke it just enough to warm it up.  Actually, I think if they had their way, they would have me warm it up every time I serve up their meals.  The warmth brings out the smell and it smells way more appetizing to them.

I chose "nope, never have" but it's really more, "nope, but I used to."

I used to nuke his refrigerated food for about 10 seconds. But BF noted that he didn't and Oliver never seemed to care when he fed him cold food. So I stopped doing it. Sometimes he'll taste it and walk away for a few minutes, then go eat. But he will sometimes do that when it's straight off the shelf, too. So I'm not sure if it's the temp that he's walking away from or not.

That's funny! My kitten doesn't mind either way as long as she can eat it immediately.

Do they prefer it a certain way? I've never thought about the bake tray idea, that's a good one!

I've noticed that some kitties just don't like to "dive in" right away. When I volunteered at a local pet shelter some cats would quickly gobble everything up, others would munch here and their on it for a couple of hours.

Yea, he's like that sometimes. Other times, he'll scarf it all down. I guess it just depends on his hunger level, which makes sense. He went to the vet today about the time he'd normally eat his third meal. So when we got back, he was eating it before the bowl even landed in the holder. Gone in a couple of minutes.

The food I feed is meal-sized portions I freeze. I thaw them in cool water and store them in the fridge until meal time. Sometimes I'll toss the baggie in warm water prior to serving it. They used to not eat "fridge temp" food, so I had no choice but to warm it up first. But now they eat it that temp, so I don't bother warming it up - usually. :lol3:

Mine won't eat food heated in the microwave. I used to take the chill off in the microwave when I took leftover canned food out of the fridge, but they wouldn't touch it. Maybe because they are not used to warm food? :dk: Now, I just let the food warm up to room temp in their dishes. With everyone on canned now, I rarely have any extra to go in the fridge. Little piggies.

Only one of my cats doesn't care if the food is cold, and that is Estelle. The others will have nothing to do with it if it is chilly. I have mixed success with microwaving food. Most of the time they don't like it re-heated. I've also tried letting it sit for a bit and then mixing warm water with it. The water addition is hit or miss. If I mix too much, they won't eat that either. So mostly with left over food, I'm doing a lot of stuff before I throw it out anyway.

With 6 cats who eat canned food, I usually don't have to put a partial can in the fridge.

miy kitty is too much of a piggy herself to wait for me to warm up her food wither with water or rewarming it.

I usually microwave half of the meal portion then blend it with the cold portion. The reason is my kitten is pretty picky against microwaved food and likes the original. It looks the food just loses its flavor once microwaved. Sometime he is picky enough to ignore fridged and microwaved food (when he is not that hungry). Since we feed him wellness core and they only come with 6 oz can size, it is a bit of the headache to make sure he doesn't waste the fridged leftover.
