Last couple of weeks I have been ground down by what is being called Autumn flu here in the UK. Its like a washing machine powder as once you get rid of it - it comes back new and improved and withit - my sense of humor has vanished.
Well to make matters worse, on Thursday, my voice had gone gravelly, friday - it was easier, Saturday - okay but started failing in the evening and this morning - I have little if any voice at all. When I have tried to shout then birds wings make more noise.
My local emergency doctor has confirmed both a mixture of laryngitis and possible tonsilitis - so no wonder my sense of humor has vanished.
Am only in at work mon and wed this week - have booked some holiday. Somehow, I feel it may be a very quiet week for me and may not be talking to anyone on the phone.
Gonna goto Tesco now - get some more stuff, so what the doc says, stay in, stay warm and try and stop this coughing.
Hope your weekend is going better than mine!

feeling generally ... well you guess but any cures / remedies homemade or otherwise would be appreciated.

My wife is thrilled with the quiet here - shes the only one enjoying this!!!!

I'd offer you chicken soup or something to that effect but I too have been struck down. I have viral bronchitis. I've been ordered to rest and I'm lousy at resting. I always have to be doing something.

Anyhow...

Tonsilitis...hmm..throat must be sore...(I know, DUH!), try a throat lozenge that has a local anaesthetic in it. We have Difflam here in Australia and that works. I know because I've tried it. It won't cure anything but it can relieve the pain. Though, before taking it, check that it won't interfere with any medications that you may be taking.

You could also try a herbal remedy that's designed to help boost your immune system to try help it combat tonsilitis and laryngitis.

Stop coughing, well that would be good if it's just a dry cough and no phlegm in your chest. You don't want a cough suppressant if you've got muck in your chest, otherwise that could result in a chest infection. The local pharmacy should be able to help you pick the right cough mixture that won't intefere with any medications or existing health conditions.

Have just surfaced after a couple of hours in bed - our son has been brilliant as has not been up or bothered me. He can be a little
at times but when one is ill - he knows no messing and sometimes comes up to stroke your head.
Anyway, had to get up as needed some painkillers - the throat is agony and not good at all. Its gone into my ear as well and thats not good for me at all.
Carol has been busy in her favourite domain - the kitchen - I buy it - she loves to cook it and has a huge slab of pork being slowly roasted. Together with carrots (cut length wise), sprouts (yippeee I love these), some roast tatties and a few leeks - dinner looks great.
In the meantime, when I woke, my nostrils were twitchin. Came down to a huge bowl of onion soup - lovel dark color and grated cheese in the bottom. It was something I first had in the USA years ago, got the recipe/how to make it and it always makes me feel a little better.
Have now completed 2nd bowl and the taste of it together with the cheese makes my throat feel easier.
I have also been told to take soluble asparin for a sore throat. There is no cure for a throat, but asparin are what the hospitals prescribe and so far, its working for me.
Large hot toddy or few tonight I think. Anyone else suffering this time of the year with this thing?

I feel for you - there is a huge flu epidemic going round the world - its all related one way or the other. I sincerely hope you feel better soon. I want to get on with some airplane work - have NIL strength to think about it. I hate being inactive.
