So my 16 week old kitten just stuck her nose into the coffee grounds before I made my coffee and got a bit in her mouth. She ran away and spat out most, if not all of it, and I tried to rinse out her mouth with some water. Should I be concerned about any residual caffeine she may have taken in? Or would that amount be small enough that it shouldn't bother her since she didn't actually eat any of the grounds? Thanks for your help!

I don't think you need to worry. Any coffee she may have eaten is so minor that it's unlikely to cause any harm. She would need quite a bit more for it to be harmful. Just keep an eye on her to be on the safe side but I really don't think she will be harmed at all by this.

That's what I was thinking too, but I don't really know anything about cats + coffee, so I figured I'd ask some people with experience. She's peacefully napping now and the incident happened about 40 minutes ago, so I think it's going to be okay. :) Thanks!

Cats don't process caffeine well, but at that low a dose, and given that it was dry, it's nothing to worry about. Probably just tasted yucky.

As you describe it, you and Luna got rid of any dangerous amounts.

But, some cats like coffe and residuals of coffe pulver, they got very interested...

In bigger amounts coffeine is dangerous, even deadly.

So watch out in the future, now when you know she has a taste for coffe...

Given that it was probably a small amount I don't think you have anything to worry about.  At the vet I used to work for we had a cat who LOVED coffee grounds.  It was hard to keep her out of them.

Thanks for all the feedback. They don't normally have access to the coffee, I just decided to try bringing my coffee maker into my room so I didn't have to go to the kitchen for my coffee every time... I know, super lazy. But I'll just put it back into the kitchen so I won't have to worry about it anymore.

I looked up the symptoms for caffeine in cats and Luna isn't showing any of it, so I don't think she actually swallowed any. :) Thanks again!

Thanks, all, for this old thread, which I found after our cat, the disposal diver, got into some coffee grounds. She seems okay but I'll keep an eye on her. (I can't imagine that she actually ate any of it, but you just never know with her...)
