Okay I guess I wouldn't have known if she was prone to them since she was already older when I got her and she was so healthy looking these past few weeks I didn't even think of it. It has just been horrible timing because of holidays I have not had a day off since she has been here except Sundays and nothing is really opened on Sunday, I just assumed she was fine since she was not a baby anymore I guess it was a big mistake on my part. :-(

I just did not want to see her go to a shelter, I thought everything would be okay until I could get her what she needed. Ugh..

Thanks for the links I will check them out now. I'm sure she is going to be okay this is just upsetting, I don't like to see them hurting or sick. I love both of them like children and just want to do what's right. It's not as easy as I thought. My mom always made me have indoor/outdoor cats growing up and for some reason they were not as needy, or I just didn't notice as much. Not that I mind. I love them no matter what. And will do whatever I have to for them. It's just funny how different my cats were when I was younger.

If it's an ulcer, no you won't be able to see it. The vet uses that special black light (W/ the lights off) to see it. It sounds like exactly what it could be, especially if there is no discharge w/ it. just keeping it closed & barely opening, because it hurts.
That's how Angel's was. (It may help to keep lights low until you can get something for her).  I would just search today, so you can call someone first thing tomorrow. I would also call an emergency vet that will be open today & just tell them what you think is wrong, & ask how much a visit would be, then factor a little more for meds.  I know I always thought the emergency vet would be really, really expensive, but when we had to go once, a visit was only $80.00. No, still not cheap, but not bad for emergency.  It may also be a good idea for you to look at getting Care Credit for the vets. I had to get it last year when Angel had cystis.  The interest is high, but in a "situation," it afforded me to take care of my baby. (& payments are relatively low. mine started at only $25.00/mo.) (  I am thankful for it, in case there is an emergency, I will just get him the help, & pay for it later! )

About the lysine, I'm sure you may know this if you have read threads here discussing it, but just in case, When they are having an outbreak, like now, you want to double up on the dose until they are better. Usually a couple of weeks or so. That would be 1,000 mg. a day. (500 in their breakfast, & another 500 in dinner).  Regular daily dose is half of that. 250 mg. 2xs/day.

Thanks so much 80$ is nothing compared to what the jerk vet I have been using charges me. I had an "emergency" with my other cat a while back about 2 months after I got him because he was licking bald spots on himself. I felt so bad and was trying everything to stop it. Finally one day out of sheer stupidity I had been using tea tree oil on a cold sore outbreak I was having and read all this good stuff about it healing wounds (in humans) so I saw him licking again and it was so raw so without thinking I put some of the tea tree on a cotton ball and put it on the spot. I thought oh he won't lick it cuz it tastes like crap.

Well not 10 seconds later he was licking it again so I was like let me make sure this stuff is not toxic, and as soon as I googled all these warnings came up about cats dying from being exposed to tea tree. I freaked out. I took him in the bathroom with a washcloth and soap and kept trying to wash it off but he still stunk like it. And still kept licking. So I called the vet and they told me to bring him in. I had called animal poison control but they wanted like 40$ so I said screw it I'm just gonna take him to the vet.

I got to the vet they took him in the back. They called animal poison control and charged me 120$ just for that. They bathed him in dawn. Gave him a pill to coat his stomach. And kept him to watch him for 3 hours. That was it. Oh and put a cone on him. When I picked him back up they told me what to watch for and charged me 600$. For a pill, a bath, a phone call, and to watch him for 3 hours. I was really mad.

BTW luckily he was fine and showed no symptoms, needless to say I do not give them anything or put anything on them not made for cats, and even then I research the ingredients.

Oh. And with the lysine I have not really been putting it in their food which I guess is part of the problem. But it the powder and although it reeks like fish and I hate the smell so you would think they would like it. They don't. So I don't know how to get them to eat it. I was mixing it in the we food and at first my big cat was eating it. Then he stopped. The baby never ate it.

It doesn't sound like she has a URI to me. If she had URI you would see discharge from her eyes and nose. She may have something in her eye or scratched her cornea or something else. It's also possible that she's having a reaction to the vaccine. It happens and would have happened wherever you got her vaccinated. A lot of cats will be moody when they don't feel well. For now I would not put anything in her eye since you don't know what has caused it. You could try to rinse her eye with water or sterile saline, though.

I would also take her temperature to see if she has a fever. You can use any thermometer that can be used rectally. The normal temp for a cat is 101 degrees. If there is a Walgreens or something near you that is open you could pick up a quick thermometer for a few bucks. I have one that is flexible and only takes 9 seconds. The quicker it is the better, for obvious reasons.

The most important thing is that she is eating and drinking and using the litterbox. As long as she does she's not seriously ill. I would take her to the vet tomorrow, though, to see what's going on. Any change in behavior like this is cause for concern.

I was just trying to find suggestions and answers on here before I go to a vet because everytime I go to the vet I do not get a definitive answer as to what could be going on, they just send me home with hundreds of dollars of pills or medication and I am left to figure it out on my own anyway. I don't like medicating unless it's necessary. Especially with cats since they are so sensitive to things. So unless it's definitely going to help I don't want to give it to them. My other cat has been given so much for nothing I never give it to him unless I Google it and know everything about it all the side effects and if it's going to help what is going on with him.

As the day has progressed her behavior and symptoms have changed. She is not as lethargic and is eating again as we speak. The eye that she would take open earlier is opened now but her other eye looks a little swollen. She seems to be in pain in her leg still from the shot although I thought that had gone away, maybe she was ignoring it because she was too focused on being in heat.

Her heat seems to be over now as she has not shown any symptoms of that since last night. She was in heat for a total of 4 days. Kind of short I guess. Maybe she is just extra tired from the stress of vaccines and heat and I over reacted. Either way I will still take her to see a vet like I said I just don't want them take g advantage of me and doping her up with unnecessary medication. Unfortunately that's what the ones around me like to do.

First heats especially in very young cats tend to be short.  Sometimes they have what is called silent heats, that's how people with young cats end up with a pregnant cat and they didn't know that the cat was in heat.  I know finding a vet can be difficult.  I did the vet hopping thing for 6 years with a chronically ill cat before I finally found one that got things figured out with him.   I take my cats to a cat's only vet and I have no reason to vet hop anymore.  Vets are expensive though no way around that.  Ask questions and if you don't get straight answers that you understand then keep looking.  Not only are you looking for care for your cats but you are paying for a service and you have the right to good service.

Your right about that she was not very loud about it either and at first I was not sure if she was in heat she was just a little more affectionate and a little bit of quiet meow/chirp type noises. She is not very vocal to begin with. My other cat chirps like crazy I haven't even figured out why he does it but when he runs or plays or even just walking around he makes this wierd chirping noise so I thought she was copying him. But then the tell tale butt in the air paddling her back feet meowing a little more came and I knew. She still did not do the really loud calling you would typically hear with a cat in heat though. She was calling but it was not very loud. Thanks for the info though and I did look on the links someone posted above and was able to find one cat only vet office but it is about 45 mins from me. I am going to keep searching and if I can not find anything else I will call there tomorrow.

You can also ask anyone else you know that has a cat about their vet. Referrals are usually the best way to go. Yes, vets are not cheap, but they shouldn't be that expensive. That's crazy!!

Definitely get her to someone as soon as you can. That eye needs medical attention asap. A scratched retina is also very painful!!  ( happened to a friend of mine once & she said it hurt like hell!)

Cats are good at hiding pain, oh & as you now know, yes, essential oils are toxic to cats.

Yeah I don't really know anyone else in my town who has a cat except one person and I asked her where she goes and she said they are even more expensive than the place I go. It's ridiculous.

I'm really scared about what it going on with her now though and I definitely have to get her somewhere first thing tomorrow. It started this morning with just her one eye and her being sleepy. Then she seemed a little better and ate a bit but purred and layed on me for a few hours not opening either eye. She has been lethargic all day. She has eaten a bit but nowhere near what she normally eats, but now I notice her head is twitching. She is still very lethargic. She has not used the litter since earlier. She had her eyes wide open before and they seemed a little glassy and both of them are bloodshot. She is in slow motion and when she does move around she seems stoned and completely out of it. I got a thermometer and tried to take her temperature but she completely freaked out even when I had her wrapped in a towel she was crying and squirming so I couldn't get a proper read on it.

I hope everything will be alright until the morning because there is one 24 hour place semi close to me but there was a lot of bad things about it online so I do not feel comfortable taking her there unless I have no other choice.

I still don't understand how this just happened out of nowhere. The only thing different was her vaccines and my other cat is completely fine. :'(

You really need a new vet. It's super important that you like your vet, that they answer your questions and give your cat good and reasonable care. If you're not getting that, go somewhere else. As much money as you're spending you deserve to get what you want, not a bunch of other crap.

If you don't know someone to give you a referral the good old internet is a great resource. Find some vets in your area and check their reviews. If you don't like the one you pick, try another one.

Your right about that one. I have been looking around for a different one and haven't really seen anything that caught my attention, but I was not expecting this so I have been being a lot more vigilant about it today. It's so confusing to find someone you trust when they have your pets life in their hands. But I have to do something rather than nothing and I learned my lesson now that anything can happen and I should always be prepared. It's not easy to watch her in this state. She is usually the lovable outgoing social one of the two.

Yeah I know, I was hoping she was just tired from all the stress and she would get better through the day, I have been watching her closely and if anything really bad happens I wish rush her to an emergency hospital even if I have to drive an hour. I found somewhere online in my town that has much better reviews then the place I have been going. A few people not 100% satisfied but there are always people who complain right? I going to call them first thing in the morning as long as she stays stable through the night. She actually ate a lot more and used the bathroom again but she's not right and needs to go. I have accepted it. :-(

I will thank you. The page said they were very convenient with appointments and usually get people in ASAP. I just have to worry about my job because I already called out on Tuesday for the first time in forever because I was really sick.

But I'm sorry my kittens life is more important than my job as irrational as that might sound. If they can't understand she needs to go to the doctor then I don't care about them.

I just wanted to update everyone on how Mamma is doing, when I woke up this morning I was very surprised to see her walking about and even attempting to play with Baby. She was much more active and even ravished up a whole bowl of food. She went to the bathroom and was walking around and jumping up looking out the window with Baby also. She even went into another episode of heat and was calling for a little while. She was rolling around and wrestling a bit with baby too. But she is not 100% back to herself. She was still jerking her head a bit and looking confused at times and squinting her eyes. I have an appointment for her today at a new vet at 3:15 and will update again with what they say. Thanx everyone for keeping me sane yesterday. I'm glad she didn't crash through the night and at least is showing signs of improvement.
