-- brushing snick, which she hates. but she has some tangles starting (thick, fluffy hair and shedding) and i don't want them growing into mats. we did the brushing early, so she can relax for the rest of the day.

-- moved the frozen shredded zucchini to the fridge to thaw, in prep for making zucchini nut bundt cake in a few days.

-- wrote up my list of things to do for tomorrow. it's one of my "busy" days, and i like to have everything written down so i can simply move through the list crossing things off as they've been done. i'll run the washing machine this evening, so i can just move the wash to the dryer tomorrow morning.
@mickNsnicks2mom    Can you give me any pointers, on HOW you manage to go through your "To-Do List"?  Specifically, how do you manage to stay focused and on that list?

If you have 5 things to do....I only manage 2-3....because I end up taking too long on ONE thing or find something else to do.  Do you always look at the Clock?

Today:
  1. Take dog to vet for regular vaccinations and revolution.
  2. find old modem and send it back to old internet service provider (ISP)
  3. do a quick vacuum and bathroom clean

i try to keep my list reasonable. if i put too many things on my list, there's no chance i'll get them all done.

i only have music on to listen to when i'm having a busy day. if i turn the tv on, i'll find myself stopped and watching it often.

i don't usually take phone calls on my busy days. and i'm not on the computer until after i've finished by busy day and taken a shower. i don't want to get distracted from what i need to get done.

in our home, everything has it's place and everything is kept in it's place. that's easy for me, because it's just me and snick. it does make things much easier for me to find though.

i have gotten to the point that i know pretty much how much time things usually take, or more accurately what tasks i can get done all in one day. i look at the clock every so often, but mostly because i don't want to still be doing things too late into the evening. i stick to my list, not letting myself add extra things on to it unless i've got extra time when i've finished my list. if i don't get everything done, i've learned to accept that and just put those things not done on the next busy day's list. my lists always have the most important things to do at the top of the list, so i make sure those things get done.

my usual plan is to have one "busy" day, followed by three "quiet" days. now, my busy days start when i get up out of bed in the morning and can last until 8-10pm at night -- and i'm doing things the whole time. and i know i've truly earned those three quiet days after i've completed my busy day. i do add extra busy days as needed. for example, my goal is to get my garden beds weeding completed before saturday, july 12th. i have a very busy day planned on july 12th and need a couple quiet days before the 12th. so i've planned to have busy days every other day, starting tomorrow and finishing a week from this sunday.  after that i'll go back to my usual plan of one busy day, followed by three quiet days.

i get a lot done this way, but also have plenty of time to relax with my snick.

  • A quick vacuum and dusting throughout the house this morning while Rick is working OT
  • Mow the yard this afternoon
  • Do some work on Rick's union's laptop tonight (set up the virus scans--they are using Norton, and make sure the Windows updates are getting through OK).  Yes, I'm kind of their computer guru.....somebody better help us all!

I'm too cheap to ever use a dryer. My parents have had one my entire life, and we actually replaced it several years back.. but unless it's something urgently needed (and the weather is bad), we've always line dried clothes. I definitely don't want to pay for a dryer in my apartment building, so we just got a clothes rack. I seldom run out of clean clothes, so I can bear the wait.

- Was supposed to work a 6 hour shift today... someone in another department had a baby, so I covered for 4 hours in the pharmacy looking sad and lost.

- I haven't eaten in like 13 hours, so that's a priority. Just waiting for my salmon to steam up nicely.

- Give the birds some lovin' and food.

it's Sunday so I had a nice sleep in.

I finally got around to making an ice cream recipe I got from a TCS member thanks @Natalie_ca

I need to hang out washing. It's raining here so it might have to go on the clothes horse. Oh the joys of winter.

have you tried using that "gaps and cracks" spray? it's kind of a foamy looking stuff that puffs up/expands to fill the gaps and cracks. i've used it for the exterior of my house in previous years, and that stuff is still holding up nicely. this year i started a can sealing up 1/2-inch diameter holes in my exterior vinyl siding (honey bees had taken up residence there towards the end of last summer, but they didn't survive the winter; i'll be having the area where those holes are remodeled in the next 4-5 years, so will have the remnants of the bees cleaned out then), and finished the can by sealing up cracks in the foundation (1880's house).

It's Monday and I'm in office right now, so:
  • Get through my Monday at work (it's a long day because Rick brings me into work on his way to his work. I'm here by 6:00 or so and then he picks me up to go home at 3:30. I'll be glad when I can get this boot off and be able to drive again. I really miss driving).
  • Must grab a few groceries and we also have to hit Lowes and Target (Lowes for more caulk and Target for a new bottle of nail polish top coat; since the episode with my peeling nail polish, I'm switching over to Revlon for the top coat)
  • Scoop the boxes (didn't get them done this morning because Rick and I are always in so much of a hurry to get to work, since he's been bringing me to my work)

@Winchester how's your foot?  Do you feel that there's been any progress?

Today I want to:
  • Do some grocery shopping.  Chuck roast and Diet Coke are on sale!
  • Finish the new hire paperwork.  I'm terrible at tax paperwork.  I never know if "0" or "1" is right.
  • Get some more cleaning/decluttering done.  I had started a week or so ago and stopped for some reason.  Time to get back at it.

Hi Peaches! No. The lump is still there and there are days when I've been on my feet too much that my foot just aches that night and it didn't hurt much before, other than when I tried to put my shoes on to walk at lunch. But my dr appt is July 8, so I'll see what he thinks. It's difficult to stay off my feet because there's a lot of stuff to be done around the house and outside and it's not fair to make Rick work so hard around the house after a full day of physical labor at work; he really works as he doesn't sit at a desk. I hate that Rick has to do so much, so I try to do things here and there as I can. I'll go down and up the basement steps doing laundry....yesterday, I was taking the bed sheets to the washer and the boot got caught on the carpet edge and I almost fell down the steps to the basement door. I have to say that that scared me and I didn't tell Rick what happened because he'd yell at me for doing the laundry to begin with. But it needs to be done or we'll get too far behind. At this point, it doesn't take much to get behind on housework, laundry, and the like.

I can say that pretty much the only time I don't have the boot on is when I'm in the shower or switching clothes, taking off work clothes to put on shorts or other pants after work and then I put the boot back on right away. I don't drive as Rick brings me back and forth to work, so there's no taking the boot off for driving. I take it off to go to bed, so if I have to use the bathroom, I'll walk over without the boot. But honestly, that's it. I wear the boot pretty much constantly. Honest.

I did spend last weekend in Virginia and it was a mistake as I walked and stood way more than I should have.

I am worried about the foot, though.

July 8 can't get here soon enough for me at this point. Thank you for asking.

I believe you've been wearing it, and doing as you've been told about resting it and all that.  Life happens though, and as a single lady without family, I know what you mean about having to do laundry or walk somewhere that others would just prefer that I didn't.  But life happens.  I wanted clean clothes, etc.  I just wish there was more progress.  I'll be keeping my fingers for your doctor visit.

This is not advice, but if I had to walk somewhere (stairs) in which I thought my boot would impair my safety, the boot would be off.  Breaking my back or cracking my head open to save my foot doesn't seem worth it.  I'd consolidate trips as best as I could and I'm often a terrible patient, but from my standpoint, I can make my cats' food while on crutches but I can't do squat from a bed.  As  single lady, I have to look at things that way, so again I'm often a bad patient.
