So it was back to work for me today, but I managed to pack in quite a lot of activity for a change:

Viewed a lovely little house which is for sale to see if it would be suitable for my mom to buy.

Bought a birthday present for a very good friend, and some nice cards.

Washed a pile of dish cloths / tea towels (used for drying dishes).  Always wash them seperate to everything else and on a hotter wash.

  • Going on ant attack again. Rick got up this morning, fed the kids, and started to make his lunch. And they were all over one of the counters. I use a white bar towel when I cook. I throw it over my shoulder and use it to wipe my hands as I do things. At the end of the day, I throw it into the laundry basket and it gets bleached with the white laundry load. It's better than using a paper towel every time I need to wipe my hands. Well, I forgot to throw it into the basket and something on the towel attracted the ants; and I don't know what that something was, but It was nasty. We got it all cleaned up and I threw the bar towel away. The ants are really bad again this year. We keep spraying Ortho Home Defense around the outside perimeter of the house and Rick is even spraying it in certain areas of the kitchen (we try to be careful with the cats). We have ant traps around, too. So tonight it's time to spray the perimeter of the house again. We try to keep a clean house; honest we do. But it's hard to stay ahead of ants!
  • Lowes for more ant traps and Home Defense spray
  • Two small loads of laundry

Argh! I booked two days off work this week because I had plans, and both those plans rescheduled to a time when I'll be required to work 7 days a week for an undetermined period of time!

- Having a meeting about a potential internship

- Signing work forms, rewriting my notes

- Do a bit of sketching

- Do a bit of rigging and/or animating. Need to find something that won't be too difficult or time-consuming to animate...

And then, of course I'm going to gripe about my failed plans for the next week.

The ants are bad here too.  I usually can get away with cornmeal keeping them at bay but this year they are not touching it and no idea where they are coming from but keep getting them on counter. And not the counter I feed the cats on?!

Few loads of wash to store as we are moving!

List few things on Craigslist

The ants have worse this year here too.  Every now and then I see the 3 cats in a huddle and gently batting something, only to find a fire ant.  I haven't had a lot of them, but enough that I notice an increase.
  • Do a few loads of laundry
  • Do a load of dishes
  • Continue checking the state website to look for my license...they've been down since 6-17 and many of us are worried about keeping our new jobs.

"Liquid Ant Killer" which comes in small bottles was the only thing that seemed to work for us.  It looks like syrup and you only use a few drops, but I think it is poisonous to cats and dogs...so you have to use it only in cracks, behind fridges, outside window sills,  and places where animals cannot get to.  If you can actually find the "trail" the ants use, and place it there,...that would be the best.

You first see a multitude of ants drinking the stuff, but then they take it back to the nest, and are eliminated. (kind of sad for the ants....but I do not like them inside or taking over fruit trees and patios.  If they can only keep to a minimum then all would be good.)

Today:
  1. file paperwork
  2. wash windows
  3. grocery shop        (In Reality...watch FiFa Soccer...then grocery shop at night..)
@peaches08   That is a long time for a website to be down, weird that they don't have a phone number, or alternate way of finding the information.  (Even sending out by postal mail would be faster.  If it's a government state error...then they better make sure not to affect people's jobs.)  Good Luck!

When ants were really bad at my parents' place, I would always use a boric acid powder and honey/sugar/jam mixture and water on cotton balls. It worked like a charm, but I hid it in upturned small plastic containers with a hole punched in the side. This was before I got cats, and the birds didn't go near them. I would highly recommend it as long as you can keep the cats away from it, like keeping it in a little box they won't be able to get into or bat around. Boric acid is obviously no good for cats either.

Of course, the line stays busy.  I don't know what the hospital will do.  I can't work without a license, and I've done everything I am supposed to do on my end.  Hopefully they can just call the licensing board and confirm that I (and others) have a license, get the number of the license, and I can start work in late July.  Otherwise, I have to reapply and start I think in January.  But I need to eat before then.

The ants are nasty this year as they were last year. We are wondering if perhaps we opened something when we were redoing our kitchen and it wasn't sealed and didn't seal it back up, although we have no idea what it might be. But it seems to be the only thing that's changed is the new kitchen. They were even in the dishwasher last night when we got home; when we fed the cats and went to put their dishes in the dishwasher, we noticed them. And as fast as we destroy trails, they come back with new trails. It's frustrating. I won't use boric acid because of the kids, but I will look for Liquid Ant Killer tonight as we can use that outside. Failing that, I'm considering calling in professionals as we don't know what else to do and I refuse to share my kitchen with ants.
  • Back to Lowes to look for Liquid Ant Killer
  • Grocery store to buy a few things that have been on sale this week, but the store was out of on Tuesday night. If the items still aren't back in stock, I'll grab some rainchecks.
  • My co-worker gave me the last season of Dexter, so we may start watching it tonight (if I can stay awake long enough).

I have a license number!!!  Yep, I'm impatient and a jerk so I called.
To my defense, another student found out that the state needed some other things from her so I needed to know if they needed anything from me.  They were very nice, although swamped, and said their website should be back up today so the hospital can check for licensing.
  • work out
  • more laundry
  • get more of that looooong new hire application filled out

If you have a number doesn't that mean you've got your licence? I thought you had a job waiting.

...with the cats...
-- brushing snick, which she hates. but she has some tangles starting (thick, fluffy hair and shedding) and i don't want them growing into mats. we did the brushing early, so she can relax for the rest of the day.

-- moved the frozen shredded zucchini to the fridge to thaw, in prep for making zucchini nut bundt cake in a few days.

-- wrote up my list of things to do for tomorrow. it's one of my "busy" days, and i like to have everything written down so i can simply move through the list crossing things off as they've been done. i'll run the washing machine this evening, so i can just move the wash to the dryer tomorrow morning.

A woman after my own heart. I put my wash on Thursday nights and into the dryer Friday morning.
