A group of started posting and supporting each other in our weight loss journey in June of 13. Not everyone stuck it out, but some of us did and there were ups and down, but weight was lost. :D

Link to the 2013 thread:

It's 2014 and time for a new thread and new goals and hopefully more people joining in. :)

Weekly weigh-ins. We way in on Fridays. You would post how much you have gained or lost from the previous week. No, need to post your actual weight, because who really feels like doing that? :lol3:

Weekly challenges. Things like drinking a certain number of glasses of water per day or a certain number of veggies a day, etc. OK, we slipped a bit with this at the end of 2013. It would be nice to bring it back.

We'd also like to share tips, ideas, recipes, etc. There are soooooo many different diets and theories out there and what works for one may not work for another. We'd like to know what is or isn't working for you.

If you want to just be part of the weigh-in or just part of the weekly challenges, that's fine, but if you aren't serious about this, then this isn't the thread for you. Sure, everyone has off days and falls off the wagon, but if all you are posting are excuses, you will get called out. :) Some days, particularly lately, I need to get called out. :lol3: Of course if you are happy with your weight and just want to cheer us on, c'mon in!:lol3: We'll take all the support we can get. :D

So who is in?

I've fallen pretty far off the wagon, but have really been making an effort to get back on it in the past few days. I still don't want to step on the scales, because I know I will be disgusted. I have a doctor's appt on Tuesday and won't have a choice then.

Karen, the most important thing is that you not quit.  I have a motto (truly) for this journey I'm on re weight loss - "I will only fail if I quit. And I refuse to quit".  Count me in for the 2014 group :)

I'm here, too. I have a doctor's appt next Thursday, primarily for my blood pressure check. (I was actually supposed to go in this past Tuesday for blood work, but cancelled that appt; I figured that with the holidays and the eating, I'd probably test positive for high cholesterol, diabetes, and everything else under the sun. and I wasn't going there.) I'll get on the scales tomorrow morning and deal with it. I know it's ugly, too.

Something Rick has noticed with me is that, since we got the new fridge with the water and ice, I'm drinking a lot more water than I used to. I have a glass of iced water in the kitchen now all the time and am constantly drinking from that. And as soon as it's empty, I get more. That's a good thing.

I'm back in. I noticed my Christmas gluttony on my backside yesterday. I have been trying to get back into good habits but it's a challenge.I reached my goal weight and then blew it. I know I can do it now though and I will do it again. I will weigh in this week.

Ok here goes. It's Friday morning in Australia. I'm the same as last weigh in.

My goal for 2014 is to lose 1.4 kgs (3lb).

Got on the scales this morning....lost .2 of a pound since yesterday. Well, that's a good thing! (I think.)
At this point, I'll take anything.

Welcome PeppermintPlant and catsofanarchy

Let's start with a good challenge next Friday, Jan 10th. Somebody think of something interesting and challenging for next Friday!

Welcome new folks!

I lost 2.59 lbs. this past week, now in that new lower 'decade' I was hoping for.

I'm in. I am again at my highest weight almost. I managed to lose 20 pounds last year, I put almost all of them back. My goal for this year is to lose at least 30 pounds. I have never been thin, but I have never been so big either. I have no health issues, I just love food and beer. :( However, this year I would rather find a balance and eat healthy most of the time than trying insane diets.

I'll join up too! I just started a low-carb thread - it may end up intersecting with this one.

I don't have a scale, so I can't weigh-in :( I'll try to purchase one soon.

I don't count calories, I count food groups like diabetics do. I've tried counting calories, fat grams, carbs etc, but it makes it too much work.  Each food in a food group, when portioned out right, is roughly the same calorie/fat gram/carb intake.  So it's easier to think about having a certain number of food groups per day, than to try and count numbers.

Here is my menu plan

http://www.lofty-designs.net/menuplan

If you have any questions about it, just ask and I'll clarify.

The basic menu plan is equal to 1200 calories.  You can add or delete food groups to increase or decrease the calories.  1800 calorie is best because it provides adequate nutrition while still being a huge reduction of calories/fats than you normally would take in when not on the plan.

What do yall think bout like, calorie goals?
I don't believe its as simple as eat x amount of calories and you'll lose y (even when factoring in age, height, and sex), but that's a discussion for another day.  I DO watch daily calories only for portion control.  I am positive I eat more fat and protein and far fewer carbs than most folks here, but this is what works best for me after years of yo yo dieting, and finding out I have metabolic syndrome.
