My 6 months old foster kitten broke a glass and wounded his right leg. On the side of his paw.

He is walking fine and I don't think there's so much pain. But he went on licking the wound and it kinda opened up!!!!

I put antiseptic (betadine) solution which bothered him and I applied cats antibacterial gel which he eventually licked off.

Im worried he might get an infection from the litter box. Or that might keep licking the wound.

Im not sure it ok to close it!!!

Vet is closed for new year's

Help!

Keep the litter clean, so there wont be so much bacteria in it.

You can pour saline water now and then, and rinse off.  They do so in hospitals, so its no hokus pokus.

About  3 grammes kitchen salt (1 tea spoon) in a litre water.  Have the water luke warm, so he doenst feel it as unpleasant, and wont protest.

A Elisabethanian collar ("shame collar") would also do some of the trick, if it can stop him from licking.

Good luck!

If you feel up to it and if you have or can get some gauze wrap you can gently wrap the wound until you can get to the vet.  Fasten it with tape, or better yet at the drug store you can get some "surgical cohesive bandage wrap" that goes on top of the gauze and holds it in place.  See link below for a picture.  This will protect the wound and keep her from licking it.
