My guy has a really noisy stomach and he is a IBD, renal failure, pancreatic, 18.5 year old cat with an upset stomach. His stomach makes a lot of loud gurgling noises at times and recently it has been pretty much every day for the last week or so. To add to this he has been throwing up every second day with bits of food and lots of water. One of the things he gets is Famotidine (pepsin) and I have been giving him flavoured gel tabs which he no longer eats. When I ordered new ones I had them try another flavour and he won't eat these either so I have been cutting them up and putting them in his food. He doesn't clean his plate so I am not sure if he is actually getting all of the drugs so I decided to go back to the liquid and give him this using a syringe to ensure he is getting this drug to help with the stomach.

The liquid Famotidine I currently have is roughly 1.5 - 2 months old and this is something the vet stocks so it may be a bit older than this. Does anyone know the shelf life of this drug and whether it is still good for consumption or should I turf it and go back to the gel tabs?

Thanks for any input.

There should be an expiration date on the bottle.  Liquid meds generally do not last as long as tablets or capsules.  I think generally it is under 4 months.

Sadly it is not in the original container, I put it into one of his Buprenophine because it had a stopper whereas the pepsin container is a different size and lacked one.

The vet called back and after going through their records it was purchased in October and the place that sold it gave them the date it was mixed and it has a shelf like of 4 months so it is just about expired.
