Our 1 yr. old male eats the hair he loses. If there are little tufts of hair stuck on the sofa, he'll eat them. Off the floor, off the sofa, even off your clothes, if you let him!
Why? And should we worry about it? (he's a semi-long haired cat)

if he is pulling hair out in clumps either large or small, he really should go to the vet to be checked out. If he is just grooming himself, then you need to brush him daily, and introduce fiber into his diet to push the hair is he swallowing through his system. You can give him small amounts of canned pumpkin with his food, or chopped and cooked green beans will also work. so will hairball blends dry food made by either Iams or Science Diet

Most of the time, the loose hair is a result of the many wrestling matches between him and our short-haired female. He looses his fur more abundantly than she does. And we don't vaccum as often as we should
he gets a hairball gel about once a week (Laxatone, I think), and he has hairball treats which he gets once a week, also. Most of the time, he eats the loose hair in the evening, almost as though he's looking for something to do...

Both cats eat Presciption Diet, since the female has a reoccurring UTI, and it's just easier to feed them both the same stuff. Elmo is very healthy, but also very skinny. When we pet him, we can clearly feel his last rib, and we can't seem to get him to gain weight. (sorta like me, except for the ribs! But I can explain mine as being a result of IBS... maybe that's what 'Mo has?
