Hey I'm new and thought it best to introduce myself. My username is SingLittleOne, but shortening it to Sing is probably better. I've had manycats in my life, and have ecperience with spayed, neutered and not, full breeds and cross breeds, illnesses and injuries, and all ages.

. Not to long ago, my family lost our 7 month old kitten to a speeding car. At least it was quick. He had come from an house where severe inbreeding was taking place due to none of the cats being neutered or spayed. The rest of his litter had died painfully from a blood disease, and we thought him to be next, but the car got him first.

Not to long after though, a friend of my parents turned up with another kitty in need of our help, this time a female named Dixie. We aren't sure of her breed, all we know is that shes a cross of some kind (I expect a tabby cross). When we first got her she was extremly timid and shy, hated being picked up or touched at all, was constantly shaking, and if she sat in your lap she dug in with her claws terrified if someone approached. Nowadays she stalks about like the diva she was born to be. Unfortuneatley, a week later, after braving the garden which she has always been terrified of, she tried the road, and was hit by a car. After a trip to the vets, it appeared nothing was broken. However she had lost all nerves in her pelvis and couldn't control her bodily functions, as well as a droopy tail. A few weeks later, she has regained nerves in her pelvis, and after vet recommendations we are giving her a bit longer to see if it comes back before amputating the tail. To top it all off, she escaped the house which she never usally exits while in heat, and due to multiple signs we believe she may now be pregnant.

Oh, the life of an accident prone cat owner.

Welcome to TCS, I hope you find it useful and fun being a member here.  I am so sorry to hear of the loss and trauma your household has experienced recently.  What a hard time your young female cat Dixie has had, I so hope she is not pregnant but if she is do use the advice and support in the Pregnant Cats and Kittens Forum if you need help and support for her. What a shame she had not been spayed before managing to escape. I hope that you plan to spay her, and perhaps once you are able to do this she will fell less of an urge to get out and her life will be less dangerous than it has been to date.  Hopefully your vet will give you full advice when you see them again in a couple of weeks time about her tail.  Fingers crossed for your little Dixie.

I look forward to hearing how Dixie is, and hopefully to see some pictures of her soon.

I am guessing here that if she is pregnant she will not be able to give birth naturally with a damaged pelvis. That means a costly Caesarean section. What bad luck !
Two cats being run over in such a short space of time, how horrible ! This is the reason all my cats are indoor only cats, they have a secure outside run they can go into for some fresh air. There are just too many dangers and too many nasty people about now a days for cats to roam freely

If I lived in a house I would do the same thing but I live in an apartment. They get plenty of fresh air sitting at my net covered windows.

So sorry for all the trauma you have been througn.  I lost multiple cats to cars when I was growing up which is why I made the decision to keep my cats strictly indoors.  I hope that your kitty is not pregnant as it will be difficult to birth if she has a damaged pelvis.
