In my other thread, I talked about how Phoebe won't eat, etc.............The one weird thing is that the only thing she will eat - and with gusto - is Cat Lax straight off my finger!

I've bought cod liver oil because that's the top ingredient in there and put it on her food, hoping that would convince her to eat.

Anybody have any ideas why a cat would love that stuff and if there is any way that knowledge can get a cat to eat something else?

Many cats- if not most - detest fish oil. Get rid of it lest you avert her further from eating.

It's very unlikely that the cod liver oil is the attraction, IMO.

I've just gone back and re-read your main thread....when a cat is constipated, lack of appetite is part of the deal. If she's constipated now - i.e. if she hasn't had a BM since last week, it's perfectly understandable that she won't want to eat.

Your main thread needs updating for us to properly follow her and to make suggestions that are relevant.

You need to methodically describe what exactly has happened over the past several days - this may be getting serious now with her not eating.

**  I've edited this post because I confused your cat with another one whose case is also active here just now - that cat has a stomach acid issue.

It most definitely is not the cod liver oil.  That experiment failed weeks ago, just like every other one.

Cat Lax does seem to have an appeal to a lot of cats, though no doubt not good for them to eat more than reccommended doses or on long term daily basis.

Have you tried feeding other pureed food for her to lick off your finger?  Doubtful this would ever achieve sufficient nutrition for her to avoid fatty liver disease but it might be enjoyable for her / both of you, and indicate if some apetite was returning to move back from the assisted feeding?

Yes.  I actually have tried that.  Like everything else but the cat lax, she just won't eat it.  So frustrating!

Someone I know said their cat went daft for pilchards in tomato sauce!  Worth a try but make sure it's a plain tomato sauce and doesn't have any garlic or onion in it.  Wouldn't touch sardines or pilchards in spring water but in tomato sauce they wolfed it down.
