I just love reading your updates on Pawley!! He has come so far in such a short amount of time. I truly believe you are the Cat Whisperer!!
... How cute is that - he is laying and playing. :lol3: The cat dancer?? is the cardboard pieces on a wire - one of the all time favorites with my kitties. Hearts-a-melting with this beautiful story in the making. :heart3: :sun: :heart2:
That's fantastic news Laurie!
I can't wait for the day when Pawley is free to roam around his new home and ask for pets whenever he wants them! :rub:
I don't know how quickly he'll be out. He seems pretty content in there. Our next step will be to take the towel off the back of his cage. Right now it blocks the cats from directly interacting. That end of the cage is right up against the passenger chair. There's stuff (including the printer :lol3: ) stacked up on that chair, so the cat bed is exactly at cage height. When we think Pawley's ready, that's the door we'll open so he can go in and out if he wants to (supervised, initially, of course - as the other cats will most likely go in before he comes out).It is so great to hear about Pawley playing! A cat having fun is a ray of sunshine. I expect your other kitties Have been sending him messages about what great times they have in your home. I expect he will be out and about your home pretty quickly.
Keep up the good work. It's always good to hear about a cat whose life has changed for the better.
I believe he is surrounded by such a good feeling, good energy, and a good loving environment, Laurie, he knows it and he feels it!! That and the fact that he inherently has a sweet nature coupled with his WANT for a better life is what is bringing him out so quickly. He has been watching you closely for months and months now and knows your heart. :heart3: That is where his home is now. I am just bursting with all sorts of emotions over this loving story. How great is it that you were able to find out about more of his past there in the park. BUT how heartbreaking at the same time. It took awhile but he knew where "safety" was AND now he has it and won't let anything get in his way to fit in. MY HEART IS MELTING over this one, sweetie. I just feel it. :lol3: What a story this one is....I think he's been watching us play with the other kitties - and just "got" it. I think his trust switch flipped before he went to the vet, and we didn't "use" up his reservoir of trust - and once he came "home," he could sense it. It "smells" cat-friendly here. :heart2:
:lol3: Thanks for the "chills", sweetie. Good ones, as you know. He is HOME - FOREVER - safe and sound. It is obvious that he never, ever wants out that door..... ever. I believe it too - he is extremely sweet natured, has a huge heart and is EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT and was one very, very, very scared feral kitty whom was in such extreme pain from that broken leg . He had to have such a high self-preservation drive to be able to survive, find food and carry on so he could find his way to you and Gary. :heart3: SHEESH - more chills. :lol3: That is ONE REALLY SPECIAL kitty - for sure. :heart2: and may I add in - that he found TWO EXTRA SPECIAL peopleAn interesting note on just your points Lauren. Gary was petting Pawley when I went outside to feed the ferals the late afternoon meal today. When I opened the door (and his cage is RIGHT there so he gets a blast of cold air), Gary said he sat up, completely stiffened up, his eyes went "wide and freaky." I shut the door, and he hadn't shifted back to lying down. Gary says he was very, very tense and "freaked out." Gary held his head in his hand (Pawley likes to have his head cradled!), closed his eyes while "looking" at him, and told him "It's OK, Pawley. You're HOME now." He opened his eyes, and Pawley started to relax - and he looked him IN the eyes (!!) and told him he's never going back outside again, this is his home, he will be loved and cared for inside where it's warm in winter and cool in summer for the rest of his life.
And Pawley rolled back on his side, relaxed, purred, and kneaded. :heart2:
I don't know what happens. But we just can't help but feeling this is a very, very, very sweet kitty that was very, very scared. :rub:
