I just went to pick up 2 prescription refills for my children.
I forgot that my ex-husband handed me new insurance cards a few weeks ago. He didn't explain the new plan or give me any literature. I didn't think to ask any questions. . . . believing that the cards were just to replace the old ones. I knew his insurance was to be changing at some point (new ownership of his business), but was told it would be a better plan.

I had no idea that the plan changed so drastically. I used to pay $25 co-pay for each prescription.

When the cashier said, that will be $199.00 I almost fell on the floor.

The new insurance has a $100 deductible per person.

Fortunately for me, my ex pays 1/2 of medical/dental. . . . . so he will be paying me back $100. . . . . it's still a lot to dish out all at once. . . .

Hopefully once the deductible is met for each child, the next time around won't be so bad.

I don't know how normal (average) people make ends meet in today's world. . . . . everything is so damn expensive!

YIKES! What a shock. You might want to check to make sure if it is a $100 deductible per child or if there is a family deductible. Sometimes they'll say $100/ person or $150/ family. Guess it wouldn't make that much difference but it's worth checking on, if you haven't already!

Eek!
That's EXPENSIVE! At least your ex is paying you half the money back.

There's no place like home
My insurance is going up and the coverage going down. I heard this morning on NPR (national public radio) that Minnesota is encouraging their citizens to buy their prescription drugs in Canada, where the prices are actually reasonable.

Isn't it sad that the medications are cheaper in Canada and they get most of them from the U.S.? The whole state of health care in America is really pissing me off.

Yikes - thats a lot of money!!! I will NEVER complain about the National Health Service again. We dont know how lucky we are. I do have minimal dental insurance as those costs do tend to spiral and are not totally covered by NHS (i think we pay 80% and the NHS 20%) not that sure though. We pay for perscriptions per item (unless on benefits etc) but we dont pay for treatment - unless you want to go private.
I dont think i could afford to get sick outside Europe!
