We have an 8 month old cat who has been diagnosed with encephalitis. He first got sick after my parents came to visit and stayed with us for a few days in September. Then he was stable for a while while on doxycycline. Then he took a turn for the worse right after my parents arrived for Thanksgiving. He couldnt even stand or walk at that time. He seemed to be recovering with a round of clindamycin. My oarents visiyed for Christmas and just left today and again he hasnt taken a turn for the worse. Could they be making him sick? They are not the best with higiene (they don't wash their hands after toileting and never bathe while they are here even though they were here for 5 days). Ive never heard of this but it seems too coincidental that 3 times in a row thays when he gets sick.

I'm not going to be much help, but I can't even comprehend this:
They are not the best with higiene (they don't wash their hands after toileting and never bathe while they are here even though they were here for 5 days).
Do they have a phobia of water?  I don't get this at all.

Could they be giving him something cats are not supposed to have? Not everyone knows that some perfectly healthy human foods are deadly poisonous to cats.

l think your cat needs to see a vet as soon as you can get him there. l wouldn't let him slip too far. Hopefully they'll get it figured out and fix the poor little guy up.

Sending vibes

I am so very sorry you are dealing with this.  years ago I had a kitten who got encephalitis she was basically comatose.  I had to tube feed her and do subcutaneous fluids for her for several weeks.  I had to teach her how to walk again once she recovered.  At first she would just scoot around in circles.  Then gradually she regained her strength and was able to stand.  It took her several weeks to recover.  She was always a little mentally off after recovering but I loved her anyways.  I am so very sorry you are dealing with this.
