The past week has ben such whirlwind, I am not even sure if I told you I have gone back to school after 25 years. I am going to be a certified massage therapist. I have finished my first week, and so far, so good. My instructors are great, and I just can't wait to really get this thing underway. After I graduate, I can work for the school to get some experience, at an ubelievable $18 an hour! I almost fell out when they told us that. It is amazing how much money a good massage therapist can make. It is always been something I have ben interested in, but never had the opportunity. My friend called me last week and sid they needed one more person for the class, and if I could get 2 weeks worth of testing and paperwork one the next day, I could get in. I got it done in 4 hours, and got enough grants and loans to cover all but 10% of my tuition. I am so jazzed about this!

Rebecca that is fantastic!!! Congrats on going back to school.
I can attest that massage therapists make really good money since my husband goes to see one about every other week since his car accident. So far insurance has covered it, but I've seen what they make!

Good luck and I'm glad you are enjoying it so far!

WOW! Good for you! I can't believe you got all that done in such a short amount of time.

It would be good if you got certified for more than one technique. I go to a accupressurist who has two techniques and she uses both in the session. She charges $40/hr.

The certification teaches Swedish and General Massage, and the diploma teaches shihatsu and reflexology. I am going for the certification first, then probably diploma. I might have to go ahead and do them both back to back, or I may not be able to get my grants and loans. That would be an extra 6 months of driving 4 hours a day, and I am not sure I could handle that. I am just going to see how it goes for now. I have my first test on Monday. I have been studying like mad!

Congratulations!! That's so exciting!

I went back to finish my last two years of college in my late 20's, and had such a good time. With hindsight I'm glad I didn't finish a decade earlier, because I got so much more out of it when I went back a little older. And it was definitely worth it.

I recently started taking some additional college classes via distance learning, pre-reqs for a graduate program that I hope to attend in a few years.

What else do you study to do massage therapy? I know anatomy is involved. I have a horrid little bit to tell. My mom got her cert a long time ago (she has since quit and is now an aesthetician) and she had to dissect a CAT! it stunk the whole basement up with formaldehyde.

I think she had told me, one time, that doing massage therapy is hard on the thumbs and fingers. It is good money though. And it is something that will always be in demand. Keep us informed, I am curious about what is involved, and how you do with that!
