Best wet cat food? Wellness brand?

Hi all!

I'm new here, but I am in serious need of some help. I am currently feeding my cat Iams dry food, as well as meow mix cups, which I know meow mix is not the best. I am trying to find a new brand to switch her onto. My vet suggested Purina, but when I look at its  ingredients, it has by-products and corn, which I have been told is not particularly good for a cat. I have done a ton of searching, and was going to try the wellness brand, but I just wanted to get some opinions or see if anyone else had used that and liked it? Or if anyone has any other suggestions? I just saw that Wellness has no by-products, no corn, and the first 5 ingredients are meat, so I thought it was good but am not sure.

Thanks!

It just depends on what you are looking for.  Wellness is a good brand, but it has carrageenan in it, as do most brands of cat food.  It's kind of a catch 22.  It seems most brands have either grains, by products, or carrageenan.  So...take you pick as to what you want.   There are a few brands out there that don't contain any of those, but not many
.  AND, it depends on what your furbaby will eat.  If they are used to eating chunks or strips of food vs pate, then you are limited again.  BUT, there are definitely things out there better than the Meow mix cups and Purina canned food.  Even Fancy Feast CLASSICS are grain free, although they do contain by-products.

I feed some of my cats raw, but when they go on a raw strike, then they get eat Wellness, Natural Planet, Dave's, By Nature Organics, Merrick, even Fancy Feast.  All are grain free, but some have by-products and some have carrageenan.

You can do a search from the top of any page and find hundreds of threads on the best canned food.  You'll get hundreds of opinions
.  Personally I think Natural Planet and By Nature Organics have the best overall ingredients for cats, but my cats don't really like them so I can't serve them up very often.

Cat life gets so confusing (for us)!  I gess you are going to keep her on the Iams and replace the Meow Mix?  How old is she?

The Wellness canned foods have carrageenan. My kitten does eat the dry kitten food and the canned kitten food. She had a (free) can of their Signature Selects line and that didn't go over particularly well. We also tried a can of the CORE Kitten which wasn't liked as well.

Trying to find carrageenan-free is a slippery slope and I know because I've been on it.

I purchased a can of Wellness Signature Select chunky turkey and white meat, carrageenan is not listed in the ingredients. I checked the site and it appears that only the "shredded" versions have carrageenan.

My cat, when he's not being finicky, likes:

Nutro Natural Choice

Soulistic

Sheba

He likes the minced, sliced and gravy flavors. He won't eat pate. The brands listed above are grain free and if you check out the ingredients (for the gravy ones), they're very good for a cat.

I buy the Nutro and Sheba at Petsmart and the Soulistic at Petco.

I know its probably not the best but my 2 like Friskies . Indoor the best. They really don't care for the poultry or salmon and never pate'.

When choosing between grains, by-products, or carrageenan, I'd opt for by-products. As was pointed out to me a few weeks ago when I was really disgusted to think about my cat eating by-products, they do that in the wild. When they eat a mouse, they eat the whole mouse... so, to me, it's the least worrisome option. Before I transitioned my cat to an all homemade raw diet, I fed him FF Classics. Those do have guar gum, however, but it's about the only questionable ingredient.
