Kittens under the bed

I have two 7-month old kittens, and they love going under the bed. I normally don't let them in the bedroom because of this; I have storage bins under the bed, and I don't really want the kittens under there. The slats holding the mattress up also fall out on occasion, and I don't want the kittens getting hurt.

I recently left my bedroom door open one night and the kittens went under the bed. At around 2 in the morning, one of them got stuck in an open duffel bag and started crying (she wasn't hurt, just a little confused; it was actually kind of cute). I got her out and put both kittens in the living room. They periodically paw at the bedroom door and try to get in at night.

I'd like to be able to leave the door open and let the kittens come into the bedroom at night, but I don't want them under the bed.

I'm looking to block off the bed with boards from Home Depot, but I was wondering if there was a product I could get at the pet store (like a miniature baby gate or something) that would prevent the kittens from going under the bed.

Cant you just take away these stats, and let the matterass lie directly on the floor?   Of course, you must hide the gears you do have under the bed to somewhere else, but that cant be helped.

I fear small curious kittens will wriggle in anyway, if that is what they want - even if you find a suitable baby gate.

Adult cats you may perhaps hold off, but hardly kittens.

Good luck!

I'd rather not put the mattress directly on the floor. We're using the space under the bed to store stuff.

I think that if I use solid pieces of plywood, it'll keep the kittens out. I was just wondering if there was a product I could buy or if I just have to go to Home Depot.

I haven't seen anything like that, but when I was having a kitten containing dilemma, I went to Rona and they were really helpful in working out a simple and inexpensive solution (after the initial "wait what did you just ask me to help you build??" hahahaha) with thin smooth pieces of wood (forget the name but it's very light) and wood glue, I'm sure you could work out something similar if you went in with measurements. The girls weren't able to move their make-shift crate at all when I had them in it, and they still can't move the wall of it that I use to block them from the black hole under the stairs. I'm sure home depot would be equally helpful :)

I had a friend in Japan who had ferrets and boarded up the under the bed space to keep them out and they are much more flexible and wriggly than cats.

I used to have issue and just put a fitted sheet around the bottom of the box spring, basically upside down.  Out of sight out of mind since almost the start for my guys.

Now I just have a boxspring and mattress.

I think boarding the space up with cardboard can work... it won't look as nice, but it does the job. If you don't have any cardboard laying around I know you can get sheets of it at your art supply store.

Me and my boyfriend taped the sides of the bed off with garbage bags. It worked lovely. We had to like double and triple reinforce it, but it was good. We didnt want our kittens under the bed either. I think that might be cheaper and last a while. for me it was better than having to buy wood. After a couple months we took it off because I needed the storage space. The kittens still went under there but not as obsessively  and for as long as they used to. My bed didnt have the same issues yours does. I just didn't want them under there the whole day I was gone and when i got back.
