Grain-free?
Ingredient list?
Protein-fat-CHO percentages?
Taurine?
Ash?
Guar gum and carageen-free?
BPA-free cans?

And lastly, reasonable price?

Go ahead and dream. Just maybe some small pet food manufacturer is paying attention.

I really don't know about the intricacies on processed canned food to come up with the perfect formula.  Hounds and Gatos is the best I have seen.   It's hard to find in stores, there are none in this area so that means ordering.  I got an Amazon gift card and I just used it to order a case so I will see if the kitties will eat it.  I got the lamb because they have eaten lamb in Nature's Variety and the Hounds and Gatos is cheaper than Nature's Variety.  It's actually reasonably priced for a high quality food, $46 a case with free shipping.  If the kitties refuse to eat it I will give whats left to a rescue so it won't go to waste.

If there were to be a perfect canned food. . .it would be like homecooked in a can :D. Just meat and the proper supplements. Real meat with balanced fat levels (many manufacturers like to use chicken skin or other fatty parts because they're cheaper). No thickeners or anything. A ground-up variety and a chunky variety. It would probably look terrible (that's why manufacturers use thickeners) but that would be my choice.

I agree! This or raw would be awesome. And they can keep the food dyes out of it too. I remember opening a can of 9 Lives tuna and thought, "Why is it Crayola red?" It seriously was too red for words.

I know Dr. P has canned her recipe before, but I know nothing about canning. It's on my to-do list though.

Canning requires high heat, so it's basically cooked in the can and can't be raw :/. But, yeah, canned raw would be awesome if they could come up with a cold canning process. . .maybe those aseptic packs? Interesting if a manufacturer could find a way. . .

I grew up on a farm and their was always a big garden and a lot of canning.  I know no one in the area where I lived would try canning meat.  It's really hard in a home canning environment to do it safely.

No grain, veggies, fruit, carrageenan, yeast, synthetic vit. K (menadione), ground flaxseed, sweeteners, or spices (like garlic).  1-2 meats as listed, no fish.  At least 50% protein, under 10% carbs.  $2/5.5 oz can.

(and on a totally unrelated note, that's the 1st time I've looked at the smileys here - omg am I going to be addicted to those, lol!!)

The perfect canned wet food for me would be basically the Tiki Cat chicken formulas (there are two) or the Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken.  They all have great protein/fat/carb ratios, no grains, no carrageenan, no BPA (though Weruva does state that there might be small traces of BPAs due to other items in the plant having them).  I might still transition our two cats to raw at some point in the future (partially for health, partially for cost), but the Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken and two Tiki chicken flavors really seem to be the next best thing in all respects except price.

So I guess if I were to have a dream wet food it would basically be those, but free... :-)
