I took him to the vet cause he had a open spot with lump on his belly and his belly is bleeding.well I got him there vet said he has a well rooted tumour.

they suggest takin him to a onigoligist problem is this hes 13 years vet said he may not make it thru the surgery and the cost is outrageous 5 thousand dollars.the cat has already stoped eating dry food he will eat little of the wet food.and drink very little water,if he drinks at all and the smell on him is horrible.i really wanna help him I wish I could im so sad .but I don't want him suffering.he does purr when I pet him and rubs my hand with is head .he has been my baby for 13 years hes also stoped using littler box.

can yall give me some suggestions sense I don't have the money to help him should I get him put to sleep/ITS A VERY HARD THING FOR ME TO IMAGINE DOING BUT IF HES IN PAIN AND SUFFERING I NEED TO HELP HIM  IN ANY WAY I CAN THATS THE HUMANE THING TO DO.

ty so much for your advice

I'm so sorry to hear your baby is so ill. I've lost a pet but it was sudden so I didn't have to make that very difficult decision.you're right though, you do need to help him any way you can.

I'm sorry your kitty is so sick.

You might want to find out what happens if the surgery is successful. There will likely be the need for more treatments. My kitty came down with lymphoma which we did not know about until the last minute. The treatments were so intensive I knew she would have a miserable time and the only option left was to say goodbye.

I think I would take courage in my hands and have him pts.  He is hardly eating or drinking, he's not using the litter tray, he smells, I think he is probably suffering.  Cats purr to comfort themselves, cats can purr if in pain so because he's purring doesn't mean he is happy.

Sorry, it's always horrible having a cat pts, the only comfort I've ever found is that I've done the best thing for the cat.

I would either try spoiling him and making his last days as great as possible or end suffering soon..It's the saddest thing to go through. I once got a puppy and only had her for a month and turned out she had pardon when I got her. Now she didn't start getting really bad until it was too late to save her when I found out way to costly for me for the outcome to not be guaranteed. We ended up putting her down the day after we found out. I couldn't do anything for her and she was just suffering..It's as if your trying to breath with with no oxygen. I hope everything get better for you. Good luck.

13 is pretty old for a cat and at this point he is relying on you to do the best thing for him. Money aside what is the best thing for the cat at this time? Even if he had the surgery will his life really improve that much? After reading your description of the problem even if I had the money I don't think I would really want to put the cat through that and I would do the humane thing and put him out of his misery. There are a lot of us that suffer with this decision but there comes a time when you have to let go and do the best for your pal. I wish you the best and hopefully you can get over it and remember your buddy from the good times and not the bad.

I'm so sorry for you and your poor kitty.
It is never an easy decision, but ultimitely it's all about what's the best thing that you can do for him. Whatever you decide, post about it. It helps to know there are other people who understand what you're feeling.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this.  I am facing possibly the same situation (intestinal cancer) in my 14 year old kitty.  I think you are right to pts as it sounds like your kitty isn't doing very well.  Just comfort your kitty and spend as much time doting on your kitty as possible in the last days of its life.

I'm sorry that your cat is ill. Another option before you make that decision is to actually meet with the oncologist. Sometimes the initial vet opinion isn't always correct and the outcome isn't the same as a vet with expertise in the field.

My oldest cat Estelle, was thought to have potentially some sort of intestinal cancer. The vet didn't like how her colon appeared in the x-ray and blood tests indicated that there were elevated eosinophils-which is an indication of inflammation. The vet immediately said "cancer" and wanted to do exploratory surgery. I knew that it could also be due to the food she was eating since she had a sensitive digestive system since the day we adopted her. Our thought was--to what end? If it is cancer, there was no way we were going to put her through the treatments. Turns out that it was likely irritable bowl. Forti-flora and making sure that her food didn't have grains in it became the new norm. That was several years ago. Now I make sure she gets digestive enzymes and grain free food.

I say all that not to give false hope given the symptoms you have already described, but there might be other options other than a $5,000 surgery and the treatments that follow.  If the consultation is within your ability to pay for, I'd consider meeting with the oncologist.

I am so sorry about your loss but you know you did the best for your buddy even though it hurt yourself. I wouldn't give up on another pet though, you can never replace your lost buddy but animals deserve good buddies so you should give it some time and then ask yourself if you wanted another pet. Check the shelters and see if you can help one find a good home. I have had to put a number of pets down and it never gets easy but in time you get over it and just remember the good times. When my buddies sister's health started to dive literally overnight I took her to the vet and one look at the x-rays I knew that was it and had her put down right away. It was cancer and beyond repair but I had to do what was best for her so no matter how hard it was I had them help her the only way possible. My buddy has been with me since the day he was born and he is coming on 19 years old and every day I have to assess his quality of life because it is not great all of the time. One day I am going to have to make that decision so I can only hope he goes peacefully in his sleep but thankfully he is still doing well enough so it is not an issue yet.

Best of wishes to you and don't feel like you are alone because there are a lot of people who think the same as you and would feel the same.
