Hello everyone. It's been a year since I posted last. I wanted to tell what happened with my two adopted feral boys, Sasha and Marlow. Sasha has been with us indoors for seven years now. Marlow has been inside for three. I posted before about Marlow getting out last year, running off, then returning. Links to "Marlow Bolted" http://www.thecatsite.com/t/244428/marlow-bolted  and "Marlow Since His Adventure"  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/247780/marlow-since-his-adventure

Last night at midnight after returning from a family gathering we noticed that the back door was open. Did we see this and think "OMG! burglers?". No. We both thought, " where are our cat's".  We were both in full blown "Oh ****" mode. Then Becky spots Marlow in a bedroom. No doubt sheltering from the vocal exchanges taking place between my wife and me. I go for the food jar and clang Sasha's stainless steel bowl. I know at that moment that he is NOT in the house. I started to change clothes from party duds to 'cat hunting in the cold night' clothes. Then Becky called to me that Sasha was on the porch. She opened the door and in he ran.

Devastation to elation in seconds. The bigger story is they both chose to stay! I'm happy to know that they think "in here" is better than "out there".

Totally get your reaction, and your relief that your fur family were there and not hurt as a result of what ever happened.  I also hope they are not showing signs of stress as a result of someone else being in their home, or that this starts to become aparent in days to come.  For you too.  These things sometimes have a habit of creeping up on us after the initial shock subsides so be kind to yourselves and Marlow and Sasha.

May your home not have been spoiled or other precious things found missing, and that you are all well.

I am very sorry to have inadvertently misled some of you. My house was not burglarized. No, Sasha can tell if the door isn't "pulled to" when locked. He has opened the door from that position three times now. The first time he did it Marlow ran off.  This one http://www.thecatsite.com/t/244428/marlow-bolted

The second time I caught him just as he got it open. This time the circumstances were identical to the first yet they both chose to stay. I would like to think Marlow never stepped across the threshold.

Very glad you were not burgled after all, as well as both your cats staying home despite Sacha's apparent continued attempts to pursuade Marlow to move elsewhere!

I do find it funny that Sasha is a grey cat with more than passing resemblance to various other mischievous grey cats on this site who get up to no good (including opening doors).
I am relieved all my doors have round handles not suited to paws even if they do have oposable thumbs and superb front paw dexterity: worryingly I have seen Mouse trying to operate the bolt on my bathroom door and he obviously knows what to do!
