Once they're spayed, they won't go into heat anymore :D. They'll be much happier and healthier. I know it's scary for them to have surgery (we all know that feeling!) but you don't want to deal with this for the rest of their lives :/.

Spaying might not make the scratchy and bitey one friendlier (it depends why she's doing it), but the discomfort of not being spayed is certainly not helping her disposition, I'm sure ;).

Unless you are a reputable breeder, yes, both cats should be spayed.  Not only will it make them more calm to live with, but also happier as they will not be driven by their hormones which leads to various types of problems.   Unspayed cats are prone to disease of the reproductive system, most especially mammary cancer.

I know it's hard to think your cats will be uncomfortable for a short while, but overall you'll be doing both them and you a favor.  It's the responsible thing to do, for their health and to avoid bringing even more kittens into the world to try and home, let alone the expense of raising kittens and possible problems that can happen if they were to become pregnant.  It sounds like you might be allowing them access to the outdoors since you mentioned the other cat doesn't let male cats near her.  Eventually, if she is unspayed, there will be one male who manages to get her pregnant.  It's just a matter of time.

If they haven't seen a vet in a while, it might be worthwhile to bring them in, most especially the one who is going into heat so frequently just to rule out your concerns.  When you are ready to bring them in to be spayed, we'll all be here for you if you have any specific questions about the procedure.

Best of luck, and have a wonderful holiday.

Yes you should definitely get them spayed it will probably help with their behavior as it tends to mellow them out.  If your kitty is going in and out of heat that often sometimes it can cause them to become anemic.
