I have a question about copyright...I am putting together a movie slideshow from pictures taken from the last day before getting laid off. I want to put it to music and this movie will most likely be emailed, not put on the web. Do I have to worry about possibly getting sued if this movie gets on the web somehow? Like if someone uploads it to a video hosting place.

I certainly dont want to step on anyones toes or anything, and if anyone has any input, please tell!

As far as I am aware - as long as you have or had the permission of the people who you took the image/s off on the day and they are ok with what you are doing, then away you go.

FWIW - thats my opinion

Thanks kev, I should have been more specific...I am worried about the song or songs I use.

Hmm, the best thing to do would be to contact the recording company and see what their policy is. I would fully explain your plans and your concerns, and ask what is considered fair use. I would also recommend keeping copies (electronic and paper) of any correspondence you have, just in case. Also, make sure you have the name and contact information of the person who gives you permission (it's always good to CYA).

I agree. Maybe ASCAP would be able to answer your question - their website is here.
