Hi all. I just thought I would actually take the time to introduce myself. My real name is Kristina and I'm 24 I just adopted a cat that was originally named Tosser but I didn't like that name so I changed it to Ace. He is 11 months old. He has been checked for FeLV and FLV and he was neutered and has all his vaccinations including Rabbies. He is sick right now. I have had to take him to the vet twice, the first time was to see why he was sneezing all the time...the second time was because he started sneezing up blood and coughing a lot. That time they tested his blood and fecal matter. His white blood cells were elevated because he has a URI (Upper Respiratory Infection). Also in his fecal matter they found tapeworms. They put him on L-Lysine for boosting his immune system. Antihistamines just in case it's allergies that could be causing his sneezing and stuff. Some medication to get rid of the tapeworms and the antibiotic he's been on since the first time he went to the vet. He seems to be doing quite a bit better since he's been on the antibiotic for multiple days and the other medication he's been on. Please pray my kitty gets totally better and that I don't end up getting tapeworms from him. I am really mad that I got him Wednesday December 11th, 2013 and he was sick the very same or next day. I have had to spend quite a bit of money on him and I wish Petsmart or HALO would pay for it instead of me. I take him to Banfield. Figured it would be cheaper than going to a regular vet since they have Wellness Plans you can get for your pet (which I did get for him). I am so happy to be a part of these forums and to have a cat again. I haven't had a cat since I was 10, her name was Sassy and she was unfortunately hit by a car. I unfortunately saw her poor lifeless body on the side of the street. I still can't get that horrible picture out of my mind I will never forget that. The thought of losing my new cat Ace to something is scary to me. I don't want that to happen to me again. But thankfully I think he will be okay.

Welcome to TCS! Unfortunately a lot of rescued kitties can be sick when they are adopted.  I am sorry you are going through this.  A lot of times if you call the rescue sometimes they will help out with expenses.

Yikes. My best wishes for Ace's recovery. At 11 months his immune system should be fully developed, and I feel sorry that the guy has been dealt this card in life for the moment.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if HALO means the same thing where you live as it does where I am. I'm going to quote directly from the description:

The HALO (Home at Last) program was created to find permanent homes for a select group of our “special needs” cats. These cats are usually overlooked for adoption due to age, ongoing medical conditions, or behavioral issues. The rescue organization will continue to provide the medical care (related to the condition specified in the contract) for these cats, and they will benefit from the individual attention and care that can only be given in a home environment.
So, I would consider it possibly fraud if you were not notified what HALO meant in your adoption papers.

That much being said, the conditions you are dealing with are not uncommon, even together - a really tough thing to be dealing with during the holidays. So mega vibrations to you and him. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:
