Hi, I just adopted a cat from one of our local shelters, and am already in love! Her name is Belle, and she's a DSH torbie (tabby/tortishell). She's supposed to be about 2 years old (according to the shelter). My brother lives with me and owned a cat that just had to be put down back in June, she was a beautiful tuxedo cat with a milk mustache, so I have sort of owned a cat before. Belle is just a great cat! I can't believe that someone would abandon her, because she loves to be petted, I haven't seen any aggression, and she gets these fun bursts of kitten-like playfulness!
She is not my only pet, I also have a cockatiel too. He lives in my room, and comes out of his cage only in my room. We had to "train" the last cat that my room was basically off-limits, and it's a process of using the squirtbottle, shutting the door when the cat is unsupervised/when the bird's out, and gauging her reactions to things. We've had her for about a week and so far she's just been mildly curious. Luckily my room is at the end of the hall and so far all I have to do is call her name out in a "warning voice" and she turns right around.
I'm looking forward to talking with other cat owners on here and using this as a learning place and resource!
