It seems my cats are covering the bases when it comes to the side effects of prozac.

I did notice they weren't as peppy in the poop department when they first started prozac over 3 weeks ago.  But they were pooping.  This week though they seem to be going longer between poops.  I think the last one was on Wednesday.  I'm giving them petroleum oil every now and then.  I'm messaging their tummies as much they allow.  I talked to the vet on Friday about their litter box situation in general and he didn't seem too worried.  But this evening, I noticed both of them have little pep and I'm a bit worried.  What can I do for them to go...before Monday morning when I'll call my vet again.

In general what can be done when constipation is due to medication?  They eat 2 wet meals daily and I add water to the canned food.  So hydration isn't a problem.  It seems the medication dampens the pooping process, like they 're not getting the urgent signal.  If that's the case, the milder dietary approaches such as pumpkin and canned food doesn't seem to really work.  Will something like Miralax make sense?  It makes stools softer...but is that any good if the cats aren't feeling the urge to go?

The Miralax has worked for my kitty who is on meds that can be constipating.  I give her 1/4 tsp twice a day mixed in her food.

Thanks for the word on Miralax.  I'll buy tomorrow.  My concern is what's in there now...should it be evacuated before starting Miralax?
