A new friendly little stray as come into my colony.  She doesnt seem to quite get it as she rubs my leg and hisses at me at the same time.

My issue is she walks back and forth RIGHT in front of me.   I CANT MOVE.   So not only does feeding take awhile now...

Im going to trip over her for sure.

This morning because it was warm - i sprinkled some water on her.   NO good.

ANY advice???

this is is not going to end well when there is ice on the ground.   PLUS - not sure what the hissing means as if I do trip or do something will she bite or scratch?

THANKS!!

PS - YES she has been spayed!!!

It sounds as though the new little stray is scared but at the same time knows you are the one who brings the food and wants to greet you.  One of my ferals does the same thing each and every morning.  He almost wraps himself around my legs.  I have spilled the food before.  Now I take a few pieces of dry food and throw them a few feet away from me.  He runs for the food and give me time to get the food into the feeding stations.  My guy does it because he is so excited for the morning food.  Some times I also just stop where I am and set the bowl down.

Of course you will want to be cautious with her since you don't know if she would bite or attack since she is new.  Try throwing a few pieces of food or treats or even something yummier such as chicken and see if she will move and give you time to put the food down.  Be careful!

Thank you for taking care of all of these cats.  I am sure the new little one is very thankful for the food.

THANKS!!

I will try this...   I should add though that they all pretty much follow me from bowl to bowl... as if to see if there is anything better somewhere.   :)

I started with like 3 big dishes and they would all eat together (or wait).   Now they sort of all have their own dish.   When I leave its nice to see them FINALLY settled and eating... but the process of getting all the food out is a mess.

This cat will follow me to the very last bowl - Its not the bowl... each cat will kind of push her off.  Sometimes she'll find a place and leave to come to the last bowl anyway.

I love feeding them... but this has become frustrating especially with her...

Should I try spraying her with water??   If your option doesnt work...   i just think the other cats will go and eat the thrown food and she'll continue following

thanks again..

Since you are trying to win her trust, I wouldn't spray her with water.  It will frighten her.  I have also had to just stop where I am when my boy comes wrapping himself around me and put the food down.  I then scoot on my bottom to place the food.  I would also try taking some really yummy treats or chicken to distract her.  Plain cooked chicken usually does the trick!

Shadows Rescue has a good suggestion--throw food.  Perhaps really smelly food.

Hi m935.

Are you dishing out the food right in front of them? I used to do that, but one of the strays I feed used to get really impatient and swat at me....and I was scared of her.

What I do now is dish it all up into those cheap plastic dishes with the lids that seal first of all, then take it outside, peel the lids off and set it out in front of them. It usually gets eaten right away, but if there are any leftovers I can re-seal the dishes then top the up with fresh food next feeding time.

Sounds like she's going to be very friendly as soon as she realises you're not going to hurt her.

Thanks...

yeah aside from switching my routine from last bowl to first... she continues to do this.

She is also now starting to follow me back to my place.  So when I see her do this - I walk her back and put out more food.   As she's eating... I escape.

Hopefully once you learns that there will always be plenty of food available she will calm down.  It may take awhile.
