Hey guys! I am new here, and I look forward to getting more involved in the community!

I adopted a kitten from a local shelter about 3 months ago. His name is Harry, and he first caught my eye as a little white ball of fluff. He was eaten up with fleas, and extremely malnourished. He looked so scared in the cage, and I just knew he had to be mine. The first couple of months he was really skittish, and didn't like to be held or pet as he was neglected and abused. But now I'm happy to say he's turned into the biggest mama's boy ever, he even lays on my feet when I wash my face of the mornings and evenings :D

Anyways, he looks an awful lot like a Turkish Angora to me. He has the super silky coat that never matts, fur in-between his toes, and the almond shaped eyes (he's also HUGE, he's bigger than my recently deceased adult male at only 6 months old). The woman at the humane society said he was a mutt- which I believe- but how is it possible for him to come from two DSHs and look so much like a T.A.? Any opinions you can give would be appreciated, I've read up on it but have never come close to seeing another DLH that looks so identical to a T.A. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to TCS! :wavey:
Harry is gorgeous and his tail is spectacular!
Without papers from a proper breeder he would only be considered a DLH, but he could well have some Turkish Angora ancestry for all we know. :dk:

Hi molly91,

I'm also new to the site and I happened to see Harry on the gallery main page and was linked to your thread. He's quite the handsome kitty! As to whether he is related to a Turkish Angora, without an official ancestry test, you can never be sure. Here is an article on the cat ancestry test:

 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/24/feline-genetics-laboratory-genome-test-cats_n_2340769.html

and a direct link to the UC Davis site

http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/services/cat/ancestry/faq.php

If you have $120 to spare, go for it... though you may be disappointed when it comes to his Turkish Angora standing. It is especially difficult to tell with white cats as the genes for the white coat is dominant over other colors, and he may well be a DLH. Let me know if you do end up ordering the test!

What a beautiful kitty! As to whether Harry is related to a Turkish Anogora... I hate to say it, but probably not. You can order a cat ancestry test online (just google it) if you REALLY want to know, but you'll be out $120 and you may be disappointed. Let me know if you find out for sure!
