I knows she's a kitten (4 1/2 Months) and since I've never had a cat inside and she chews on everything like she's teething this may be normal, but I was petting her and she started to smack her mouth like a hair was there or something and then something come out of her mouth. I heard it hit the desk and looked. It was a tooth. Is this normal or should I countinue freaking? She's acting Ok and went and ate some more of her canned food.

Relax !!!! It's quite normal - kittens her age teeth just like humans do. And congradulation it is actually quite rare that one find a tooth.

*sigh* Oh thank god! I thought she'd hurt herself. Is there anything I need to look out for? Is there anything I can give her to teeth on(I cant get her to leave my cords/wires alone).

LOL My friend called me last night when she found a tooth in the food bowl. Had the same reaction as you did!! Normal soft chew toys will help the teething. If you check her mouth you should see another tooth coming in.

Are you going to save it and put it under a little catnip pillow for her?????

Soft chew toys...like what? Can I get them at walmart?
I tried to check her mouth...she wont let me much. When I did I couldnt tell where it came from. I guess this teething hurts.

I plan on getting her a special treat when I go out. This probably explains her meowing and enjoyment of canned food over dry recently.

For soft toys....I envision cat toys made out of things like human baby teethers are made of. Of course they don't always play with them, nor chew them.......unless of course they are in the shape of a pen cap.....LOL

Just an idea - one of my cats loves to chew on the 'jerky-type' (can't remember the name) dog chew treats. Giving dog food or treats all the time is not good for cats (not the right level of nutrition to be a sole or major source of calories), but just giving one to chew on every now & then shouldn't hurt. You might try one of those rawhide "chew-eez" made for dogs.

Thanks everyone!! Those are some great ideas. I have to go to town sometime in the next few days. Hopefully I'll find something since she seems to want to play with the straws instead of bite.

I freaked out when I was told that cats went through teething. I was worried that Russell would be without teeth and eating would become a traumatic experience. The vet then explained to me what happenned and I had to laugh at myself at that point.

Though I did always keep a look out for teeth. I never found any. Congratulations on your find.
