So I brought my cat to vet yesterday because I noticed his left eye was very swollen and red. He has chemoses which is the swelling of the conjunctiva  (basically conjunctivitis) caused by feline herpes. The doctor gave me an antibiotic that i give to him orally which is Clavamox and an anti viral eye drops which are idoxuridine. I started yesterday giving him the treatment and i noticed this morning that the eye is more red and puss like :( Is it suppose to get worse before it gets better I know its only been a day I just feel bad

Hey there,

"Idox" is a great anti viral eye med and while i wouldn't say the eye should get worse before it gets better, its possible that it might.  But go ahead and call your vet and ask for a phone consult.  Now that you've had the exam the vet should be happy to give you a call back.  And you are carefully applying the eye cream taking care not to touch the tip of the vial to the eye, and doing it at the proscribed times of day, right?

Generally speaking most cats I've seen with this need 7-10 days +-/-.  I still suggest you call your vet for a follow up if her eye looks worse.

When I use Idoxy on my cat DeeJay I was instructed to use it 4-5 times a day.  Did the vet tell you to put your cat on Lysine?  It helps prevent future outbreaks.  I give my kitty the powder form called Viralys.  It can take several days to notice a difference with the medications.
