After raising two kids with no pets beyond fish and stick bugs, I decided to get a cat after my youngest moved out early this year. I found a breeder that I wanted to work with and ended up with the newest love of my life, Wilson. He is a beautiful sable Burmese who stole my heart with his first "mew."
He was about a 7-8 hour drive away, so when we picked him up he snuggled with me all the way home and I was completely in love by the time we got home.
My boyfriend, who insists he's "not a cat person," wasn't far behind me. He loves Wilson almost as much as I do, and Wilson adores him.
I find myself being really overprotective, and a little bit of a worrier with Wilson. After raising human babies I know how to handle colds and shots and behavior changes but with a baby cat I have no idea, so I'm at the vet more often than I'm sure the vet wants me to be. I just can't stand the idea of letting something go though, and have it turn out to be serious.
I've found a lot of helpful information on this site though, and thought it was time to join.
Hopefully in time I'll be able to offer some helpful advice to other cat moms and dads too :-)
