The people on craigslist irritate me. I occasionally look on there to see if anything catches my eye (its how I got a deal on one of my two cat trees after all), and just now I looked only to find a whole bunch of people harassing someone about wanting a pregnant cat.

The original poster was looking for a pregnant cat so that they could raise the kittens and then have pick of the litter. The person said they were going to get them all spayed/neutered at Pawmetto Lifeline (a local shelter place that offers free spay/neuter quite often and very cheap pain meds to go with those surgeries). The person also said they would prefer if the momma cat was okay with other cats, dogs and children.

Following that was several responses saying that the only reason anyone would be looking for a pregnant cat is if they were a snake owner and they wanted easy food for their snakes.

Being a snake owner (though my snake isn't large enough to eat anything other than a baby mouse) and a cat owner I found this so appalling that people can be like this.

I hate how people take something kind and twist it into what they want.

I would agree with alerting those who may be considering giving a cat to this person to the possibility, and warning them to fully screen them before giving them a cat. Because people do sometimes feed kittens to snakes or even dogs :(. But saying straight out that that's what they're doing is mean. But that's craigslist for ya :tongue2:.

I haven't searched this post through Craigslist yet, but I definitely find the listing at the very least extremely questionable, definitely offensive.

As far as feeding snakes, yes, mice make more sense in every aspect.

I find the request of a pregnant mom for her litter of kittens so someone who seems to feel a godlike complex to pick and choose to their convenience a

kitten with a desirable color/markings/fur, then do with momma and the remaining kittens as they please....................THAT IS DISGUSTING!

Some people may be just trying to help by taking a mom to be so that she is well cared for and kittens will all be spay/neutered and adopted into decent homes not given free to anyone who shows up.  Really if they are true with intentions that is a great thing to do.  Get a kitten or two they saw from birth but raised with a mom and siblings so more well adjusted and help the issue.  I would be more worried of a person using kittens for training a younger dog to fight then snake food.

Oh my God how horrible. I had a coworker who fed her snake baby pigs and rabbits. As horrible as it sounds, my husband did mention that he heard of people feeding kittens to snakes. I'm crying now thinking of it. It does make you wonder why someone would want a
pregnant cat. Why not go contact a r

Years ago I had a friend who volunteered at a cat rescue - this was in Connecticut. They had a children's book author who offered to foster a pregnant cat that would have an orange kitten. She wanted to photograph and write a book. They happened to have a pregnant calico queen. The woman did foster her and yes, she had an orange kitten. I never saw the book.

An unusual request but legitimate and certainly win / win for everyone, cat included.

I don't see anything wrong with the concept---someday I want to foster a pregnant dog so I can raise and keep one of the pups and know he/she had a good start from birth---but it would probably be better to go through a rescue group. It's a good thing to do, though, especially if mama cat was going to be gotten rid of because the previous owners didn't want kittens.

Those considering giving someone else their pregnant cat should be aware of the risks and what they can do to minimize trouble. Considering the person mentioned having the mama and other kittens spayed/neutered I'm inclined to think they're genuine but warnings never hurt. Hopefully they would find good homes for the mama and other babies.

Plus if they care about the mother getting along with dogs, cats and kids. If they weren't planning on keeping her they wouldn't care.

I don't see how wanting to pick out your kitten from a litter is being godlike.

The best thing is to ask the people for vet references. If they have other pets it should not be difficult. We have to be cautious about posts like that...
I live on the coast and people feed kittens to sharks and use them as fish bait...

My point of this post was just people were assuming and being horrible about it.
