Hello guys and ladies,I'm a new member and of course I need a good mentor to help me with raising my Brandy..Brandy is 1 and half year old and she is a very playful cat..She follows me everywhere and she evens jumps up at me to lick my hand and rub her face across my hand(FUN)!!!!!...I'm starting to really fall in love with my Brandy, but she sheds hair alot when I'm rubbing her or when she walks past me and brushes up against my clothes...I'm not use to cat hair,so i'm asking any members to help and school me on how I can control her hair from shedding so much..Also I want to ask if anybody knows of any good dry food to feed her.

Hi there, hope you are finding the information on the site useful so far and are enjoying being a member. Brandy sounds cute, and totally in love with you.

I used to have 2 tabby girls that the fur constantly and one in particular would shed handfulls every day.  I swear all you had to do was breath near her and clumps would fly off her.  I don't know how she managed not to go bald.  It was infuriating, and my home was a complete no go zone for anyone with asthma which was a pain.  It's been 3 years since I lost the second of my girls and still find more of their hair around my home that I do from my current Russian boy.  I feel for you!

Some cats, and some breeds of cat do shed more than others, but general health and nutrition inlfuence it as well. Also seasonal temperature variations.

It did help to some extent if I groomed them almost daily, both with a wire brush to clear out loose under fur, and then loads of stroking with soft grooming gloves or damp (not wet) hands to take off the loose, dead longer hairs.  They still shed on me but at least I'd have caught a solid handful of it first.

One thing I would note is my girl who moulted the most had some food intollerances: I think if I had managed to get on top of that her shedding would almost certaily have improved.  It is worth looking at Brandy's diet and see if reducing grain / carbohydrates and increasing proteins makes a differene for her.

On the question of good dry food - is there a particular reason you are thinking about dry food as generally that will not have such good nutrition as wet foods, and Brandy is more likely to get dehydrated which would probably not help with her shedding fur either. You may be best posting that question seperately as a new thread in the nutrition Forum.

Good luck, I am very happy that my current boy keeps his fur to himself.

Hi, welcome to TCS.  It's nice to meet you.  I brush my cats gently with a cat brush and it helps control loose hair to some extent.  They actually like it, too.  I also use cat wipes which are made especially for cats, though they are not in love with having this done.

You might just be starting to fall in love with Brandy, but it sounds like she already adores you!
Have you had her for very long? Please post pictures of her when you get a chance. They do like to rub against you and then they leave hair behind. It's like their footprint! Brushing does go a long way in helping with the shedding. And it's so peaceful to do, too. You can almost feel your blood pressure dropping.
As far as recommendations on dry food, have you checked out the Nutrition forum here: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/64/cat-nutrition ? There are loads of interesting discussions concerning dry food, and feeding in general.
