So hubby went shopping and saw Fresh Pet at Walmart and picked up a bag for my anorexic kitty thinking she might like it.  It's higher in fiber than I want her at for Megacolon though.  But how bad are the ingredients?  I don't really think that cats need spinach or peas in their diet however.

Ingredients

Chicken, Chicken Liver, Ocean Whitefish, Natural Flavors, Eggs, Carrots, Spinach, Pea Protein, Pea Fiber, Vinegar, Salt, Taurine.

Vitamins:

Niacin, Vitamin E Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid.

Minerals:

Zinc Chelate, Calcium Sulfate, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite.

My amateur opinion would be that it doesn't appear to be so bad. Lots of proteins lined up at the start, which means there's more of that than the veg. And the veg isn't necessarily harmful, they just don't need it. Filler to save the company money. Although, spinach I've read can cause problems for some cats because of calcium oxalates which can crystalize and cause stones in the kidneys and bladder. I do not know what makes a cat more susceptible to this than others.

The one thing I remember about FreshPet is that it's very low in calories; you have to feed about double the amount of average caloried wet foods.
