My cat could be pregnant... or not?

I have recently brought in a stray cat from outside. I'm calling it female for now, but 'her' gender is hard for me to confirm.

'She'd' been living in our yard for about a year, and sometimes I brought 'her' inside because of the cold, and a week ago, I noticed 'her' stomach was really round, looking from the top. I can feel fluid (like milk?) under 'her' nipples, so I would assume 'she's' pregnant. I'm further convinced by the fact that 'shes' been really busy licking 'her' tummy around her breasts and the area under 'her' tail. She literally looked like she's swallowed a football sideways.

However, my problem is determining 'her' gender. Is' she' a male cat that was neutered as a  young kitten, or a female cat?

I know she's more than a year old, but probably about a year and a half.

I have an image of the genitalia on the cat, but have failed to completely confirm the gender. People are always giving me different answers.

Here's the picture of the genitals...

Here's a picture of 'her' from the top...

I don't know if I said this, but I am strongly pro-neuter and spay for cats and dogs (and people too), or any other species with an overpopulation problem.

I want to know if she is pregnant, because if she is, she seems pretty late-term, so, I'd probably put off on spaying her. I will NOT let her outside until she is altered, either way. Or him, if she turns out to be male.

Sis there any reason why his tummy would be so large? It also feels a little lumpy inside. It's really quite firm too. Sometimes the cat sits like a female in estrus.

It does look like an immature or neutered male.   the urinary opening ( the dark round bit at the bottom ) looks round like a male, and too far from the anus for a female.   so the part in between must be the scrotum.   ( It does have sort of a look like a slit , like a vulva!  but unless the cat is a true hermaphrodite ,  that must be just the line that one sometimes sees down the middle of the scrotum.

The big belly could be due to worms.

I'd take him to the vet  & get him checked out, get him de-wormed and vaccinated ( maybe not all at once).  and find out if he IS neutered and if not,  get it done soon.

Thanks for the help, it's been really useful. This is my first time posting and it's great that people get back to each other quickly!

He appears to be distressed right now... He keeps clawing the floor and running in and out of closets. His meow is quite sad.

Has he been using the litter box normally?  It's very important to watch his potty habits.  Is he having trouble either urinating or deficating?   If he isn't urinating normally, it's critical to get him to the vet.

A real 911 that needs vet care immediately

He does use the litter box regularly, he just eliminated in it (both ways). Perhaps he is just upset because he is still confined to my room so he doesn't get into any arguments with my other kitties?

Hm... He now appears to be shredding his bed (old blankets in a box). That's okay though. And sitting with his butt up and tail to the side. 0.o

That's weird.

Good, good on the litter box front.   If he hasn't been neutered, it's a Very good thing that you took him in.  Maybe you're right and he just want to meet the others.   IMHO you are doing a good thing by keeping him separated, though he doesn't seem to agree.

Can you start a new thread in the bahavoir forum?

I have a girl that looks like a neutered boy, very much like that picture. And I recently came into ownership of a very chubby cat (older female, spayed young) who looks quite pregnant :lol3:. So either could be possible and I'm kind of waffling. But if she were pregnant I would think she'd be more "open". Try to gently, um. . .spread the section below the anus---if she's female there will be a slit under there and if male there won't. If he is male he's neutered (or cryptorchid but that's rare) so hopefully he'll save you a little money :D.

It's true that in the other thread he/she is in the "cat in heat" position so now I really don't know :/.

So I just checked for a slit, and I found one. It kind of made me feel like I was molesting the poor kitty though. D=

So I guess this cat is probably female...

Haha, kitty molester! Yep, it's a little awkward.

Well, if she's a girl she probably is pregnant :/. And pretty far along by the looks of it. Hopefully everything will go well. You might talk to the vet about de-wormers that are safe for pregnant cats to minimize the kittens' exposure to parasites.

It's one of those gender- confusing kitties!   Thanks to Willowy for encouraging , um,   further exploration.   & thanks to Willowy's female cat who looks like this picture.

Pyrantel pamoate  (Strongid) is  a de-wormer for roundworms safe to use in pregnant cats.

Also Revolution can be given to pregnant and lactating cats .  it protects against roundworms &  hookworms as well as heartworm,  fleas, mites and ear mites  ,   You might want to first give the Strongid.  then for the follow up dose 2 wks later, just treat with Revolution.

but of course  talk to your vet about this.

Thank you guys! I've had cats all my life, but none have ever been so confusing as her. I guess she's just different. I'll look into the mentioned dewormers and probably get some for all my cats.

I'll take her to the vet before Christmas if I can, but the holiday stuff here in Tacoma is pretty much taking over the city. It may have to wait until after the new year. But she will be spayed before she's let out.

...I guess being pregnant would explain her trying to shred up her bedding.

But seriously, thanks. It's nice to know what's going on, and that if I have questions, I can come here.
